Does anyone know how to remove the original heatsink from an Asus 9600xt ? the things seems to be really stuck on and I am reluctant to just pull it off (or use a screwdriver to lever it up, as I read somewhere!) trying to fit a Zalman ZM-80C to the card.
Thanks in advance

run a graphically intensive program/game for 20mins to heat the core up. Then take it off. Im guessing thats it is "stuck on", and not screwed in etc.

ATI usually uses two part pins: You have to pull the center expander out of the pin before the pin can be released. Once you have the pins out, twist a little while pulling. ATI uses a thermal interface that's kind of like really sticky clay.

Cheers guys. I forgot to mention that I had removed the pins already, in the end i levered it after heating it gently and it was fine. seems to actually be stuck on with some two sided tape onto som other chips!
Thanks again. For others out there have no fear in pulling it off.

time was you would stick a card in the freezer, hs would pop right off then.

I am trying to remove an old fan on a GeForce 2 Ti. I was able to get the pins off, but the heatsink is really on there. I can't put it in a computer because the fan is dead, and I could overheat the card. Can I use a hairdryer or something to heat the heatsink up?

put it in the freezer for a bit, then carefully pry off the heatsink.
