Remove Icons from Notification area

How do I Remove Icons from the Notification area in the Task bar as they are in the Start menu? On Vista 64 bit.

Right click on the bottom desktop toolbar>Toolbars>uncheck Quick Launch.

For the notification area:

right click on the task bar, properties, notification area, customize, and select in the window that icons you want that always appear, don't appear and appear when are in use.
