Hey guys, I have sticks of what I think to be DDR 3 Ram that came out of and old computer that was being scrapped. Problem is they're these seemingly unmovable heat sinks attached to them. Is there a safe way to get them off at home without damaging the ram without using some kind of tool?

I would to find out exactly what they are, the shields cover nearly the whole damn stick.

Thanks.

plug the ram into a board and use CPUz to identify exatly what it is.

Normally you can just peel the heat spreaders off. They are only held on with a bit of thermal tape. The heat spreaders are nomally very thin aluminum so chances are they will bend and be hard to put back.

Appreciate the tips so far. As for pulling them off? They have 2 little silver clips that are just un movable. Also, I would love to plug them into something, but the only something I have is a laptop. I may just take them with me to the store and see if one of the geek squad guys can check for me real quick.

Thanks guys.
