How does one disable system restore?

I want to replace Windows notepad with Notepad+ but after deleting Windows
notepad it keeps returning.

Here are the instructions to replace Windows notepad with a notepad program
of your choice.

- Backup a copy of c:\Windowd\notepad.exe
- Disable System Restore
- Replace notepad.exe
- Enable System Restore

The problem for me is how to "Disable System Restore" then "Enable System
Restore"

To enable/disable System Restore, go to the Control Panel ('Start > Control
Panel') and double click the 'System' icon. Then:

• Click on the 'System Restore' tab on the system applet.

• Check mark 'turn off system restore on all drives' to turn off
system restore on the system.

• Uncheck the box to enable System Restore monitoring on the system.

• Click OK when done.

Update:

After trying the "Disable System Restore" then "Enable System Restore"
method and it didn't work, did the following.

Seeing how I want to use Notepad+.exe instead of Windows notepad.exe I just
put Notepad+.exe on the C drive, grabbed the first .txt file I could find
and did a "Open with", directed it to Notepad+.exe (checked the all the time
box) and I'm in business.

P.S. System Restore was already disabled in the computer. ????

Anyone interested in Notepad+ can find it here:
