Hi Everyone! I have a question about upgrading my processor. I have an i5-3570k, and wish to upgrade to an i7-3770k. Can I simply take out the old processor and put in the new one since they both use the same socket (1155 I think)? Or is it a more involved process?

There are a lot of benchmarks out there, it seems like 99% of games show no benefit from Hyper-threading which is all you will get from that CPU upgrade. I would just go with the gpu upgrade.
With the newer procs most of the time the answer is yes. Just pull out the old stick in the new. Use new tim and go.
You may want to look up your exact motherboard to make sure the higher wattage i7 is supported.
Do you know what chipset the board has?

I use it for gaming. I also plan to upgrade my video card, and am wondering if my 3570k will hold up with a gtx970.

If I only have to upgrade the video card, then that would be fantastic! Save some money.

I have an ASUS p8z77v-Deluxe board. It supports the same socket for both. The chipset is Intel Z77.

Here is the mobo page: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
