Thanks for the reply,
Unfortunately that card in India is much more expensive hence out of budget.
Cards in my budget are:
GTS 450, 550 TI
6770,6790,6850

Please recommend amongst these.

*I think the 6850's don't actually unlock to 6870s, since the shaders can't be unlocked (they're apparently locked at ASIC level or something like that) but the 6850s can be flashed with a BIOS that has it run at 6870 speeds, allowing you to get almost similar performance.

You mean 6950 to 6970, no?

From those options the best choice is 6850. Find one that has a better cooler. Also overclock your CPU, your motherboard should support even a slight overclock(i think). Get it to 3.5Ghz if you can. At list that way your CPU will not be a bottleneck for your video card.

In india 6850 is 20$ more expensive compared to 6790. Do you guys think its worth it considering that my CPU can cause a bottleneck. I am not very techy so no overclocking business for me.
@sunnk: I've checked on flipkart and ebay, both of them are quoting very high rate 12000+ for the 6870.
I am from Mumbai, Thane.

Yes it is worth it. You don't have to be very "techy" to overclock. You just go into bios and change some numbers. You just need to read a guide(witch there is on toms site in the overclocking section).

Plus your CPU is the most overclock-able(or one of the most) one for SK 775.

if ur tight in budjet you can buy the 6790,u be safe in that resolution but like other said if you can push ur budjet just a little bit more to afford the 6850 then i think thats the better choice and can satisfy you in most games

Thanks for the OCing link, thats very kind of you to look it up for me.
Another worry I have with ocing is the temp, My CPU reaches 72c under load, will it be safe to overclock it? how much of a bump does oc create in terms of temp?
6850 is pretty much in budget...

@sunnk: I've heard there is lot of duplicate parts for sale in lamington, could you confirm this.

I do clean up my system on regular basis and the thermal paste has been recently changed. I checked out a few heatsinks for my cpu but they are out of my budget. Considering the high temps of my cpu would it be recommendable to overclock my system.

Verify how the heat sink is sitting on the CPU. It might not be well fixed on to your motherboard.

The temps are too high for a non overclocked CPU. Also the thermal paste that is now might be trash or badly applied. The stock heat sink should cope with 500Mhz of overclock, because mine did from 2.66 to 3.1Ghz and i have a 65nm CPU witch is hotter than a 45nm CPU(yours). Also when you decide to overclock start a new thread in the overclocking forum(we don't want to mix up things).
