replacement heatsink for the VNF4?

I noticed that the VNF4 motherboard has a passive heatsink on the northbridge. I have one on order from newegg, should be here on Friday or Monday. What I was wondering is if I should replace this heatsink with an active one? I have a Hercules 9800 pro fan just collecting dust and was thinking about putting this on there. Would this solution help keep the northbridge even cooler since it's an active copper heatsink and not a passive one? Thanks in advance

the fan I have is off the Hercules 3d prophet 9800 pro, it seemed to do a good job of keeping the card cool. I took it off to replace it with the arctic cooling vga silencer.

My board has the nf3 chipset, but not that diferent. It runs pretty close to system temps. I doubt a fan would make it any cooler

Why not wait and check the h/s temp when you get the board. The NF3-250 sink on the VNF3-250 never got above 90F. The board blew up anyway.

If it's a Chaintech board he'll have plenty to worry about. Around July 4th he should get quite a fireworks display of his own! :lol:

Are you guys saying that the MOSFETs are known to have problems on this board? I have pretty good cooling in my Xaser3 case, but if this board is known to have problems I will just RMA it and get a refund and try to find another NForce4 board.

Take Wusy's advice and mod it. It will help a lot. It won't make Chaintech support or warranty policies any better however.

I have this same motherboard and was planning on raising the fsb to about 233mhz. Do you think I have anything to worry about? (using a winchester core 3000+)
