Its been a bit of a challenge finding an exact replacement motherboard for my HP Envy 17 J-series laptop but I found a seller who sells a similar one (not the exact same type), I emailed the seller on ebay and sent a picture of my motherboard on the device and he says he doesn't see why the one he sells shouldn't work with my laptop. I have attached a picture of my motherboard and the one on his page. I'm trying to get some advice from someone here on tomshardware about buying or avoiding this.

Here's the listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/2352486707...cd&cnvId=700003&recoId=235248670759&recoPos=1

and mine is attached.

I am guessing this is your only option because of cost. Most people would not put any money into an Intel 2nd gen CPU laptop... It would get data copied off and then recycled when it failed.

Thanks for replying. What do you advice? do I buy a used laptop rather than the motherboard replacement or do I find a better motherboard for replacement?

I don't have a good answer. At least with a used laptop, you can verify that it works. A motherboard swap is a gamble. What do you do if the swap fails? You probably end up buying another laptop anyway.
