Hi!

I recently upgraded my PC (PC Part Picker List), but the PSU I bought (Corsair RM850e) is horrible. It has an incredibly loud coil whine, and a very annoying fan bearing as well. I would like to replace it, but I'm not sure what should I get, after burning myself with the previous one.

Any recommendations? My budget for it is around €150-€200. This is not my first PSU in the last 15 years that has noise issues, so at this point my main concern for the new PSU to be quiet, so preferably no coil whine and no loud fans.

How important is the ATX 3.0 compatibility? I'm not planning to upgrade any time soon after this.

Every device that either outputs or has power inpout to them will exhibit some form of coil whine. Have you narrowed the source of the noise to come from the PUS?

The Corsair unit is by no means a horrible unit. You might want to contact Corsair and let them know of the coil whine.

Yes, it is for sure coming from the power supply.

There were quite a lot of complaints about the RM850e PSU, mostly about cheaper transistors and cheaper fan, compared to the RM850x.

An objectionable coil whine is, what I would consider a defect.
Your psu is still under warranty and could be replaced.
Contact Corsair with your issue.

Considering that ATX 3.0 is a new standard, I would think it wise to include that as a requirement.
Seasonic vertex GX-850w with a 12 year warranty might be a good replacement:

I'm in the US, so I don't know that this will help, but I love this PSU, and I've bought two so far :)
