Question Replacement / Upgrade ? for Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3 GHz

I have an old Lenovo ThinkCenter that recently stopped working. Doesn't boot, no post no video, no beep. I am thinking of throwing a cpu at it as they are cheap. I already did lots of troubleshooting and narrowed it down to the cpu or motherboard

The current cpu is Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3 GHz. Sound I consider a better cpu that would work in this application.

Looking for recommendations cpu or should I just stay with the E8400.

For that, don't worry about making it "better".
Just get it working.

But looking in my local craigslist, I see several systems that are miles better than that, for $100 or less.
