Replacing bent USB 3.0 Connector 20PIN

Hi all.

This is my first post and hope to be detailed as possible.

My Mobo: MSI 990FXA-GD80 model.

When I was connecting the Front Panel USB 3.0 female cable TO the USB 3.0 Connector header box on the motherboard I accidentally bent on the USB 3.0 pins as shown below:



While trying to bend the pin back into shape, the out-of-shape bent pin broke off.

My Issue:

I am trying to find a web site where I can buy the component from. I have experience soldering components to motherboards and I have all the necessary tools to do so. I've encountered these foreign websites:

But I'm unable (Or don't know how) to purchase them from those sites. I also looked into Digikey's website:

And I have no clue which is the correct component to purchase.

I have looked through the forums for an alternate solution like buying an equivalent PCIe card TO purchasing a whole new motherboard. But I'm really looking first to finding help where I can purchase the USB 3.0 component.

Not sure what the exact model is but I think you are looking for something from Mollex's 2mm Milligrid series.

You could buy a really cheap PCIe card, like this one on EBay, and just desolder the connector from the card:

This is just the first one I found, and I'm sure you can find one even cheaper if you search.

I wouldn't mess with soldering despite your experience as it voids the warranty.

Another option is just get a PCIe USB3 card with the proper header for the front panel as said above but just use that instead.

Unless you absolutely have no PCIe slots left just get a PCIe card.

Breaking pins usually voids the warranty too if the manufacturer is stingy and checks for unrelated non-warranty issues.

InvalidError + Jaxim, I'll definitely go with what you guys suggested.

Worst case to come if if I need to desolder one of those component from a PCIe card like JoakimL suggested.
