Report: Google Told EU About MSFT Browser Ballot Issue

Does Apple or Google's Android give you a choice......stupid ruling to begin with. Nuff said

This is plain stupid. Every single operating system needs a browser as one of its basic applications. Microsoft decided to bundle IE with it. Assume you don't have an internet connection and you still need to view some offline pages then you need a basic browser to help you.

If you dont like the native browser then change it. Its not as if Microsoft is not allowing you to install Chrome, Firefox or whatever it is that you use.

[citation][nom]realibrad[/nom]The EU knows what they are doing, if they didnt, then why is their economy doing so well?[/citation]
Because they steal money from corporations to fund their retarded decisions.

This is a bad day for everyone when stupid things like this happen. and to show my support for what MS has done for us I will by a WinPhone next time.

...I hear you all but, I think this is just the kind of tough medicine MS needs...they spent over a decade dominating the browser market and holding back the web with the worst browser ever (that just won't die already!)...they killed any attempt to deter their desktop dominance (remember netscapes loud cloud spinoff)...maybe a chain of misfires and failures may make them rethink their slow-to-innovate-stifle-competition strategy...

I'm not sure if you're very subtly mocking them since most of the EU is either failing or has failed or if you're failing to acknowledge that.

Bullshit EU regulations, why isn`t the same imposed for other OS if posing for fairness ? But even so, is stupid to force an OS manufacturer to put this in their software. Wish to see what they think about Apple`s closed OS for phones, will they go there too with this stupid law?

A drop in the ocean in real terms. The Intel fine was well deserved, anyway.

Microsoft didn't "stifle" competition in the "browser space". Netscape did that themselves by selling Netscape Navigator for $20+ a copy....and charging ISPs for distributing Netscape as part of their internet service.

I think it's because Microsoft have done this before. The European Court doesn't want to know that this appeared to be an honest mistake.

You're 100% correct in that Apple, at the very least, needs a big slap if we're going to be consistent across the board. Either that, or an end to silly court cases (hardly going to happen).

This is just outrageous. I hope Microsoft increase the prices of its software purchased by EU's organizations to get the money back. These EU officials are a bunch of losers handling the issue.

It was Google AND Opera, but nobody seems to take issue with the second company.
Given the repeated jabs from Microsoft, one could not have really expected Google to not act on an opportunity. Granted, the browser ballot law is stupid to begin with, but Google (or Opera) have no legislative power. The law was in existence already.

Try uninstalling Internet Explorer, then let's talk again !

Insane. Chrome, Firefox, Opera all gained huge marketshare in the past years. It's irrelevant if windows had the popup or not.

I would love to see the EU enforce this.

I still think Microsoft should just give them the finger, and modify their patching and prevent EU countries from getting patches for a year. The only thing windows update offers them would be the option to uninstall internet explorer.

What, like with a fine or something?

Yeah the Intel case was open and shut. They were deliberately using their superior financial position to damage AMD's market position.
