"Wow the gouging continues"
- When refinery companies like Exxon charge extravagant price on gas which is daily necessity for life support of ordinary people, yes, it is gouging. On the other hand, overprice for such luxury on a Ferrari is never called gouging. If you can't compare a high-end video card to a super car, try even on Camry and Lexus. NVIDIA is a for-profit business, not a social service. I'm not condoning evil profiteering, but to my eyes, NVIDIA is just a normal business. I would be angrier if NVIDIA's contract manufacturers hire kid labors. If you feel this price is not what you want to pay for the performance, just look for other alternatives. It's not like gas that you can hardly find one for.

I was seriously considering getting the next gen 700 series top single gpu card and go 3x sli but if they will be priced that ridiculously then I probably wont.
at this rate my 580 sli is looking great still. and if I upgrade this year, when I can get two 7970's for under 700 ill buy them and use one of my 580's for PhysX and never even think of a titan or 700 series. I have always preferred radeons as my main cards anyway.

But, but, but Kepler was supposed to be so awesome. So the 600 family was out since may/june (with stock issues) 2012 and now is officially retired with a boatload of silicon stocks they now have(irony). The 700 family was slated for march/april 2014 now almost a year earlier, to me this is what happens when you get a beating at every level, and is the final nail in what was complete defeat.

This will hurt NVidia in the long run. I haven't used ATi since the 9700 PRO, but now I'll consider giving them a try again and I update my video hardware yearly. I was looking forward to the GTX780 but not anymore.

and AMD is nowhere to be found... so nvidia will price gouge for months to come and reel the suckers in while amd keeps delaying their next gen... nad nvidia will capture the market because a lot of people have disposable income... high end cards sell out faster than any other tier

Catalyst 13.5 when drivers make hardware irrelevant, it is a complete sweep now for AMD parts and this has prompted nvidia to ditch and run rather than waste time on fine tuning gimped architectures.

7790 on much less resources and thus power and heat produces about 95% of the 650ti boosts performance (1GB) while the 7850 1GB is still the undisputed king of budget. The now $190 HD7850 2GB is about as good as the 660 which is more expensive and not much more than the 7870 GE. Where Nvidia is taking the biggest pounding is the $250 7870XT which is about 95% of the GTX670's performance for much less and 5% doesnt equate to $150 difference, the you have the 7970GE which is romping away at the top. The nice stat is the 7990's now 17% window on the 690 and 28% over the titan. Every market is now AMD headed that is just how impressive GCN is.

Oh, so wait AMD's release of GCN much in advance of Kepler (6 months) was a good idea now, or is Keplers failure just arrogance and contempt from team green, they thought they had good but was fools gold. This didn't sit to well with them when they started seeing their financials taking a knock on all fronts.

The other aspect is what are Nvidia going to do with all the unsold GTX600 silicon they have?

IMHO, without DP compute performance that is significantly better than the 680, this card will not be worth it.
I've been an Nvidia fan for a long time, however, echoing other posters, if Nvidia continues to gouge with these prices, I'll be looking to AMD.

GTX 780, GK110, 2,496, 208, 40, 5 GB, 320-bit
Errm.. That's the Titan LE Specs,
Too many sites are dumping rumors without looking at facts.

Next generation console games will all be GCN architecture optimized. Nobody in the software business will spend extra to develop specifically for NVidia, and already that tendency is spreading to any other general applications besides games. I just don't understand why NVidia is shooting themselves in the foot with non-competitive pricing. They definitely lost to Qualcom on the mobile side...It is just amazing arrogant and dumb marketing moves they make.

ROFL...And what makes this report any more accurate than the last?
For anyone whining about the price: It's not NV's job to give you a good deal (or AMD) and just like Intel you pay for what you get (better drivers, just like Intel's better cpu). AMD keeps giving out games and cheaper prices but it's driving them into bankruptcy. If these are anything like the Titan (which is near impossible to keep in stock for a day) they are charging too little. If I was NV I'd immediately raise the price on Titan $100-200 until there is at least a unit in stock for more than a few hours...LOL.

It's not gouging just because you can't afford it. Don't forget gouging the rich is how they keep YOUR card affordable. Get a better job, maybe you can afford better toys then...ROFL. I'd warn anyone about switching to AMD, it only took a year to get drivers to NV's level and they still have Enduro problems (see notebookcheck) and everyone is talking about runts these days along with frametime's and stuttering. We aren't even sure they will get this fixed before xmas (they said AFTER Q2, which is NOT specific). Also note, they already said this will SLOW down their cards. Choose wisely people.

After you finish the free games, you have to live with the card and it's drivers for the next 3-5yrs (maybe longer at $1000).
Like it or not, you get what you pay for and AMD is discounted for a reason and they come with 3-8 games for a reason too. They sucked until Nov last year as Hardocp showed. We still no know where all the dust will settle with their driver situation. FCAT FTW! Note hardocp also said 7990 was a TERRIBLE value as did PCPER and so did almost everyone else I've read, except for AMD butt kissing Anandtech...AMD's favorite site and the only ones they talked to directly regarding the prototype drivers-Anandtech will delay fcat results until the driver comes...LOL)

Just hit CTRL-F and type jian. I think I had 4 sites in there telling how crappy AMDs drivers are (including tom's...LOL). If you can't get your drivers right, the competition will RIGHTFULLY take 65% of the market no matter how many games you give away :)

A product that MIGHT be fixed in the future shouldn't be bought right? It doesn't work as advertised out of the box. Have fun being AMD's beta product testers. Get back to me when AMD matches NV's fps without runts and stutter. We already know prototype driver will SLOW down their cards. But how slow are they going to get? When will the drivers be fixed?

Really starting to hate the comments page (without coming directly to the forum to post). Not sure why it keeps double posting and ignoring CR's to separate paragraphs etc, or just plain denying the post for some reason.

Come on Nvidia do not disappoint us.........I have always been an NVidia fanboy but its current ridiculously high pricing has started to put an end to my fanboyism and is driving me towards amd.

Yep, that is guite good prediction. The only thing that can change that is that 8970 is really good and cost allmost the same as 7970 did cost when released. But 8970 will come much later because AMD is waiting for new production node... And if 780 will cost 800-900$ there is no need for 8970! 7970 is much better card for the money in that case...

The only real problem in this is that AMD can release 8970 and put the price to 650-700$ and still be competative compared to 780... Anyone see that GPU prices are gonna raise again? Hopefully not, but I am so pessimistic person...
Then they can just reduce the price when Nvidia will relase "real" new 700 series as an 800 series later in the next year... instead of rebranded old cards.

I don't know where everyone gets there pricing from? People act like the price hike's for cutting edge hardware is a new thing, but I paid $800 for my first gtx 480 when it first came out, a year later I picked up another for $300.

Apparently everyone can't discern between rumor and fact. Nvidia themselves haven't said a word about these chips and people have already condemned them to hell because some random person thinks a top end chip *might* be more than $500, like they are entitled to own the best of the best within THEIR budget.

Agreed with what you said. AMD's role in this tech world, is pretty much being the budget guy. While they might not have the best performance, they will put the price that is better in terms of price-to-performance ratios to compete with Nvidia And Intel. The part where you said GPU pricing are raising either, I have to say it's true. Especially on the AMD side. AMD needs money. They are losing more money in every quarter of the year, if that keeps happening, AMD will die eventually from this suffering. AMD needs to do something.

With price points that high and with estimated performance not much better than AMD's Radeon HD 7970; It would better sense to stick with a 7970 based card. I known high end performance is expensive, but pay close to a thousand dollars for graphics card is way over the top in my opinion. I can see this type of price for professional grade cards but for gaming - I think not.

Why does this look good for AMD still, not only will the rebranded GTX700 be modest gains over the 600 family on a stressed old node that even AMD's existing line up will still represent good enough value against for a couple months until the rather impressive looking 20nm volcanic islands is out and that will give AMD around 8-9 months of sales on an impressive node until Nvidia has a response. As a former Nvidia devout its kind of nice seeing them get a hiding, maybe nvidia will go be to how they used to be instead of a cash cow.
