These are product cycles, you cannot have brilliant ideas all the time. ATI had their bad times before the 9000 series and then with the HD 2000 series, so did nvidia with the 5000fx and now Fermi. I suspect the graphics circle of life will continue.

But Go go AMD hehe!

I bet they had some concerns about failing cards due to overheating and lower GPU life at such high temps for a lifetime warranty that would cost em more, so more profits with ATi 5xxx series.

Not only XFX started to sell ATi cards, many other manufacturers like Gainward.

[citation][nom]smilingman[/nom]When your number one card sale does not have a product for your next-gen chip that is a very, very bad sign. No matter what happened this shows that nVidia has made a mistake with how they have handle the GF100 chip.If they don't stop listening to their own PR spin and fix all major issues with this chip, we will be left with only ATI and thats not good for anyone.[/citation] No, we'll be left with ATI and Intel, there's a couple other graphics cards makers like Matrox and another one, I can't think of off the top of my head, but Intel's attitude is that you don't need the kind of horsepower Nvidia and ATI can muster for graphics.

[citation][nom]radiovan[/nom]Pesonally, I am waiting till 2011. Nvidia will have time to mature/upgrade their design, prices will normalize on both sides of the camp and PCI-e 3.x will be out, hopefully. Really, DX11 is not my concern one bit, stability is and multi-functionality, since my life does not revolve around game spec's but making money with what I got.[/citation]

You should probably invest in FireGL or Quadro if looking for those things.

XFX isn't really a company I ever cared about honestly I'd take a Gigabyte, Asus, MSI, Palit, EVGA, BFG, or even a Biostar in most situations over a XFX.

Companies switch between ATI and Nvidia pretty frequently generation to generation and same with AMD and Intel so nothing particularly new surprising or worrisome in the sum of things.

LOL ATi fanboi's They are not selling them because Nvidia is punishing them for starting to sell ATI cards do some reading besides Tom's. I'd take a gtx 480 even if it was 40% slower than the ATI 5870 because THE DRIVERS WILL WORK IN NEW GAMES!!! Ya you won't have to wait 6 months after your new game you just bought to play it without problems like you do with ATI.

I have two XFX cards and both came with a double lifetime warranty. IMO, XFX has a solid reputation and is a company who stands behind their products. Just guessing, were they not confident they could back yp Fermi, a business decision implying too much risk?

Are you really serious, "Matrox"!, "Matrox"!. It must be April Fools were you are. Intel graphic aren't even good enough for the pc I just built for my mother.

+1

It seems like many here are just trolling and having a good time putting Fermi down. XFX did not leave NV, on the contrary they would have loved to sell the 470 and 480 regardless if they offered lifetime or not. NV has an issue with XFX being AMD's partner and they could not come to an agreement. NV didnt want to share, they wanted XFX all to themselves.

BFG and EVGA also offer lifetime warranty on both the 470 and 480, not sure why I see users saying that the companies are scared of offering any type of warranty due to it's heat threshold.

So, they used to sell Nvidia only, and now they're starting to go down the path of AMD only?
ATi cards do have the coolness factor (red/black, not some damned fluorescent green), and so does XFX as a company.

XFX seems to be all about the coolios. =D
The GTX 480 is damned ugly, really. A stock 5870 is SEXY!

Lol this reminds me of my earlier comment a few weeks ago about nvidia fermenting the gtx 470 480 in an attempt to "age" the gpu for better performance. good for xfx!

I loved the nForce chips, owned a Riva TNT2 M64/Ultra and FX 5200/5600. nVidia has lost there way tho and think their they can do no wrong.

Fermi = wrong

You are going to need those life time warranties, because within 6 months these cards are going to start failing. XFX knows this is going to happen and said thanks but we'll pass on this one. Plus some reports state that they had to buy 80 old 200 series chips to get 20 new 400 series chips. If you play hard ball with your suppliers be ready to take a lost or two.

That applies to retailers, not card manufacturers.

[citation][nom]nognlite[/nom]I'm not fond of XFX after I had to RMA three sets (that's 6) GTX 280's and user replaced a fan on a 8800GT. All in 18 months.[/citation]
Must be user error. That is like getting struck by lighting twice as you're winning the lottery and having sex with the playboy playmate of the year.

I'm glad XFX had the balls to do this. Someone has to grab Nvidia by the shoulders, and say "NO!", just like scolding a child. Nvidia needs to stop straining their R&D over so many things and focus on the market that they're losing.

Oh man, this is bad news for Nvidia. XFX used to ONLY use Nvidia, now looks like their jumping ship... no wonder, Fermi is 1 year too late. Nvidia might wanna start focusing on their Ion chipsets, cause they've lost the PC gamer battle

[citation][nom]welshmousepk[/nom]can't blame them, with the temps these two cards run at, it would cost them millions to reaplce dead cards under their lifetime warranty. i think they will be offering lower end cards, but its just not worth them offering 470.480's.[/citation]

I totally agree with this logic. With temps approaching the limits of the solder joints what company in their right mind would offer any type of warranty. XFX always backs their parts with a double lifetime warranty, can't blame them for not taking a risk with these space heaters.

The picture is clear, XFX and other companys are making WAAAY more money on ATi cards than Fermi, its Simple. If you people say they are punishing XFX, in fact nVidia are punishing themselves by doing so just to make you the real picture more clear. XFX are in the Top 5 preferred brands btw A Silicon GPU running @ 99C (The card start throttling @ 105C) while gaming only Not Furemark in 2 monitor mode will prolly have its life shortened, obvious. Who want a Boiling card ~100C inside their PC? That will also affect other components in the long run. Remind you that the 480 uses 43w More than the Dual-GPU 5970 while playing Crysis and all this on a single Die with smaller contact.

I am not a fan of XFX - had major problems with 2 XFX cards - replaced them with MSI - no problems.

I have to question XFX's manufacturing processes as well as their QA
