Restore disc.

I have a friend that I want to built a system for. He has a gateway with an XP restore software. Is there anyway that I can use that on the new system rather than have to buy a new copy of XP? Bruce

That restore is based on the hardware in his machine.

Then I will try and use a OEM version and his key numbers. I heard this will work some times. This would only be fair being he did purchase XP with the old PC. Bruce

Actually, it really isn't "fair", as it's against the licensing agreement. That Gateway was using OEM software, which is married to that machine. Legally, he does need a new copy. And no, I don't want all of you software pirates weighing in and ragging on me, you're breaking the law and it's that simple. You can rationalize all you want, but you likely wouldn't like it if someone stole from you.
