Not long ago my power supply failed, and I got a new one (slightly more powerful than needed, as I want to upgrade to a B550 board and Zen 3 CPU soon). I also unplugged and removed everything - including the CPU and 3 SATA drives - so I could mount everything on a test bench for easy access.
When I booted the computer up I received the folowing message:
[Text: Your pin is no longer availabe due to a change to the security settings on this device. Click to set up your pin again.]
When I try to set up a new PIN I am asked to verify my identity using either my email address or phone number, and unfortunatey I no longer have access to either.
I booted from a Fedora Live USB drive, and ran chntpw from a terminal window where I cleared the password.
But when I reboot the computer I still get the same message. So I'm wondering if the process is different for a W11 account that needs verification than for a working account with a forgotten password? Or isn't there anything I can do at all in this situation?
