Not long ago my power supply failed, and I got a new one (slightly more powerful than needed, as I want to upgrade to a B550 board and Zen 3 CPU soon). I also unplugged and removed everything - including the CPU and 3 SATA drives - so I could mount everything on a test bench for easy access.

When I booted the computer up I received the folowing message:

[Text: Your pin is no longer availabe due to a change to the security settings on this device. Click to set up your pin again.]

When I try to set up a new PIN I am asked to verify my identity using either my email address or phone number, and unfortunatey I no longer have access to either.

I booted from a Fedora Live USB drive, and ran chntpw from a terminal window where I cleared the password.

But when I reboot the computer I still get the same message. So I'm wondering if the process is different for a W11 account that needs verification than for a working account with a forgotten password? Or isn't there anything I can do at all in this situation?

Specs:

  • Asus B450 F Gaming II
  • Ryzen 5 3600
  • 2x 16GB HyperX Fury RGB 3200MHz
  • Gigabyte RTX 4060 8GB
  • Crucial P3 500GB M.2 NVMe
  • 3x various SATA SSDs between 500GB & 2TB
  • Corsair RM850x PSU
  • DeepCool LS520 AIO

We do not assist with security issues as we have no way to verify that this is actually your system or that you otherwise have access to it. This thread is closed, do not repost.
