I am kulging a SIP audio paging gateway for a VOIP Polycom implementation. The VOIP manufacturers want $100s for SIP audio gateways. A viable solution (when using Polycom phones and their local multicast paging capability) is to use a "spare" polycom phone, clip the audio leads to the internal speaker and connect the leads to a amp that powers legacy analog speakers in our church.
This speaker is a mini speaker driver (2"), not a PC speaker that just does diagnostic beep codes.
The Polycoms have POE power.
Anyone have similar experience with a hack like this? I am interested in noise, balanced vs. unbalanced issues, audio compatibility with amps or have you just been successful.
No help from Polycom as they do not like internal mods to their products.
