Hello,
This is my first time trying to build a computer myself. I will primarily use this machine for home movie editing, web development and moderate gaming. Can someone please review the list of parts that I put together and let me know if I am making right choices.

Intel Core i7 2600K LGA 1155 Boxed Processor 1 $279.99

ASUS P8P67 Pro-R3 LGA 1155 ATX Intel Motherboard 1 $189.99

Cooler Master GX Series 750W ATX Power Supply 1 $109.99

Crucial RealSSD C300 CTFDDAC064MAG-1G1 64GB SATA 6.0Gb/s 2.5" Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) 1 $119.99

Hitachi Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 2TB SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive 1 $79.99

Corsair Memory Vengeance Series 8GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) CL9 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit (Two 4GB Memory Modules) 1 $104.99

Diamond 6850PE51G ATi Radeon HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCIe 2.1 x16 Video Card 1 $199.99

AZZA Hurrican 2000 ATX Full Tower Black Case 1 $149.99

LG GH22NS50 22X Internal SATA Super Multi DVD Drive 1 $17.99

Thank you in advance.

Solution
As a first timer I think you might like the HAF 922 the best. It has good room and decent cable management. Good air flow for a mid tower.
My only objection is to the PSU. You will want something smaller in this case, and more efficient.
Seasonic S12II

The MB COULD be downgraded to the plain P8P67. You are paying extra primarily for the SLI/Crossfire support that you are not likely to need.

Did you choose the AZZA case for looks? Other cases will offer better quality, and a full tower might actually be too large for you considering the build. Look at Cooler Master cases. Here are three, all of which will work:

932
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119160
Has USB 3.0 front port.

690II

All the cooling you need and lots of room. Costs much less.

Thank you for your reply.

I am trying to buy components that are available in the local computer store (support local brick store). They do not have PSU that you are suggesting, do you think this PSU will work in its place?

Builder Series CMPSU-500CX 500 Watt ATX Power Supply

You are completely right, I picked the case purely based on its looks. The only reason I picked full tower, is because I was reading other peoples posts where they had issues upgrading due to the size of the case. Unfortunately, none of the cases you suggested are at my store either. What should I look for in the case that will work well for me? Number of fans? Filters? External ports? Will any case work with my MB?

Thank you

The AZZA case is OK if you are set on the local shop. Perhaps they have an Antec 300 or 900 which would work for you also.
Mostly you just need one or two good fans low in front pulling air in, and one or two fans high towards the back to exhaust air. Your build will be happy with that, as it's not going to generate too much heat.

The Corsair PSU you mention is just barely adequate.

Other options would be Antec:
Neo Eco 520 <-- the same internally to the Seasonic I linked.
EA-500D
TP-550
Any of those would be better than the Corsair. But the 500CX if you must.... Hmm my sig isn't showing, I was going to say send them a link to the PSU guide, they might learn a few things... I'll fix that.

Edit for the signature

Thank you for great advice!

Unfortunately, once again, they do not have exact models you listed in this thread (or in your big list of parts v2).

Here are the closes matches that I found for power supply:

ModXStream Pro 500 Watt ATX EPS12V Modular Power Supply $50.00
Antec True Power New 550w ATX Power Supply $129.99
Antec True Power New 750w ATX Power Supply $89.99

Why would they charge more for 550W then for 750W - does it make sense to you?

Here are my options for the case:
Antec Three Hundred ATX Mid Tower Case $64.99
Antec Nine Hundred Two V3 Mid Tower ATX Gaming Case $134.99
Cooler Master HAF 922M mid-Tower ATX Case 124.99

Please let me know if any of these options will work for my build or If I need to give up and go buy online.

Thank you

I often try to give local businesses first choice. It is a bit more expensive but it helps to keep local economy growing. I hate to see more and more stores closing their doors. However, at the end of the day, I will do what makes sense. If I can not find the parts that I need at the local store, then I will buy online. Hope that answers your question.

So, do you think any of the options for power supply and case that I listed in my previous post will work for me?

Thanks

I understand about local shops. They are a great resource to have when you need them.

OCZ ModXStream Pro is a nice budget choice at that price.

The Antec TP-750 for 90 bucks is a great buy, if a bit overpowered. It's a Seasonic built PSU.
The TP-550 I mentioned IS the True Power New 550W

For comparison to be sure you are getting the right PSUs:

TP-550

TP-750 (blue and plain version)

Great.

I think I will go for TP-750. I see a lot of great reviews and price is better then most online stores. I did check and that is the one that you have a link for on newegg.

What do you think about the case? Should I go with my original choice of
AZZA Hurrican 2000 ATX Full Tower Black Case 1 $149.99

or do you think one of these options will work better for me (given the size of my video card):

Antec Three Hundred ATX Mid Tower Case $64.99
Antec Nine Hundred Two V3 Mid Tower ATX Gaming Case $134.99
Cooler Master HAF 922M mid-Tower ATX Case 124.99

Thank you for all your help.

I respect that. I would do the same if computer parts weren't rediculously expensive at the local shops here. I needed to pick up a wireless PCI card and LOL'd at a lot of the prices they marked for other components.

It's pretty much written in stone that you shouldn't cut corners on a PSU purchase. A case, however, is very subjective. While it doesn't make things faster or more powerful (yes, I know better cooling gives you better overclocking potential), it is what ties everything together. A cool-looking case that is horrible to work with will make you want to throw your build out the window. Looks are important, but don't let that be your only consideration. The HAF or either of those Antecs will work well for you. I would suggest the HAF 922. I have the 912 and it was easy to build in and route cables.

Awesome.

I am all set.

Can you recoment a good how-to site/article for someone who has replaced parts in the past but has never put a compelte system together?

Can you think of any other accessory (like additional fan) that I need to get before I can put it all together?

Thank you

I doubt you'll have any local selection for coolers. You'll want a decent air cooler:

Hyper 212+

If you want to look locally here is an idea of how to judge them.
You want at least 4 copper heatpipes and at least one 120mm fan. It has to be compatible with your motherboard, which is LGA 1155.

At the bottom of my "guide to choosing parts" is a list of links to various tutorials. Tecmo has a good one right here on the forums:
