Question rgb fans

im building a gaming pc for my grandson hopefully if alls well lol
he want the fans to light up the case he bought has the rgb fans but one connecter is a 3 pin female the other is 3pin male the mother board has a connecter on board for the female connecter but not for the male plug. there is 4 pins male spots on the board what doi need to sort this please its my first incounter with them

ive just got an empty case at the moment as im having problems with cpu compatability at the moment

All the more reason to post the specs - whatever you can.

Otherwise you may resolve one problem only to create another.

Watch out for "compatible with".

Could mean that it "plugs in" but not that it actually works.

Real all specs and documentation very carefully. Pay attention to the fine print. Go online for more up-to-date information via manufacturers' websites.

Careful planning is needed. Details matter.

ALL "RGB Fans" now come with TWO different cables, because really they are two devices electrically separate in one unit - a fan, and lights. The FAN connector is female, about 3/8" wide with FOUR holes usually unless you have an older type with three. It has two ridges down one side of the connector. The mobo fan header where that plugs in has a plastic tongue sticking up beside its first three pins, and the ridges on the fan connector slip around that tongue so you can plug it in only one way.

The female cable for lights may have either 3 or 4 holes in a wider connector. 4 holes is the simpler plain RGB system using 12 VDC power, and 3 holes (looks like it had 4 but one is plugged) is the more complex ARGB system (5 VDC power). SOME fans have a third connector on the SAME lighting cable and it is male. It is only so you can plug another fan into that and create a "daisy chain" connection system of two or more fans' lighting cables that uses up only on mobo lighting header.
