I usually favor ATI and really like the HD4670. However this article seems biased in favor of that card. If you look at the graphs, the 9600GT beats it in every game, sometimes by a lot. The prices have come down to the point that the 9600GT is very close to the HD4670. Thus it seems to me the 9600GT is a better performance per dollar card than the 4670.
The only advantage of the 4670 is that it uses a bit less power and doesn't need an external power connector. It seems to me that the 9600GT should have at least been mentioned as an alternative to the 4670.

As an owner of an HIS-4670. I love it. The card is very close "silent".. can't hear it. I replaced the 8600GT-Fanless with this card because the BIG problem of ALL fan-less/passive cards is that the heat pours into the case as do single-slot cooling cards.

With dual-slot, you're pushing the heat outside the case which means lower temps overall. It means CPU, HD, everything is not being heated up by the video card. I have seen some people rate down the HIS for being double-slot... stupid. Its a feature... why buy it?

The ONLY cards I recommend getting need to have dual-slot cooling. It also means other case fans don't have to run as high to keep the system cool... = less noise.

Yeah, mine is silent too, as is my HIS 4850, and the HIS 2600 I put in my father's PC way back when. Whether or not it is copper, the simple fact is it works. I also agree with Belardo, and recommend dual-slot coolers on any gaming card.

Precisely. Wonder why they are saying all the nice things about ATI but still would not run H.A.W.K at dx10.1 for ATI cards. Which ATI owner would run it at dx10.0, knowing that dx10.1 is better in term of speed and graphic quality... Anyway, they are neither doing Nvidia or ATI any favor with their bias.

[citation][nom]scrumworks[/nom]"DirectX 10 crashed at 8x AA, requiring a switch to DirectX 9"This can happen only on Tino's tests. Too afraid of ATIs DX10.1 lead.[/citation]

[citation][nom]bloodblender[/nom]All I can say is that Tom's recent articles have been an excellent read, and this exactly the stuff I (as well as many others) require for their research purposes. Keep up the great work![/citation]

It's almost like they stopped hiring editors because they were allegedly good looking females...

[citation][nom]Shadow703793[/nom]@EDITORS/AUTHORS: PLEASE include the classic Crysis. Also GET RID OF Last Remnant.[/citation]
Yes. Seriously, Remnant is such a bizarre choice, it makes it look like Tom's Hardware would accept payments from a game company to promote a game for them. I'm not kidding when I say it makes me question Tom's integrity.

Something's off on the fallout benchmarks. Notice the 8800GTS 320mb, 8800GTS 640mb, beyond half the fps of a 8800GTS 512mb ????? Doesn't a 8800 run similar to a 8800 even if they are slightly different revisions?

computertech82 - 8800GTS 512mb > 8800GT >> 8800GTS 640mb > 8800GTS 320mb. There is a major gap performance between the 8800GT and the 8800GTS 640mb. The 8800GTS 512mb was a major revision, not a minor one.

The Radeon HD 4670 is an efficient and cool GPU that runs fairly quiet at 36.5 dB(A). Even under heavy 3D loads, the fan doesn’t run at high speeds—according to GPU-Z, it stays at a steady 30% of its maximum rotation.

I kinda LOL'd at that...

Maybe it only runs at one speed because it has a 2-pin power connector? Look at the pic and you'll see for yourself it's not a PWM fan, let alone a 3-pin fan.

I own one of these cards. It's a solid, quiet, and cool-running card. It ran Fallout 3 at max settings at both 1680x1050 and 1920x1080, FarCry2 at High or Med/High. They sold very well at Newegg, but Newegg has discontinued it in favor of lower-clocked 1GB versions. Microcenter has the H467QT512, but at a higher price than Newegg's price was.

Pretty impressed by the 4670 CF...wasn't sure if ATI would be optimizing their crossfire drivers to work as well for their second-tier cards, but 90% scaling on average is about as good as it gets. Bodes well in the long-term for CF owners, too. Still liking the performance of my 3870 triple-CF. Good job ATI.

Still, after this many months ATI still hasn't fixed their drivers for The Last Remnant? I suppose it may not be their first priority and their recent driver updates have made lots of improvements elsewhere, but still...shame on you ATI. Or on Square because really they should have coded the game correctly to begin with.

Still kind of confused as to why HAWX isn't being run with DX10.1 enabled. Obviously anyone with an ATI card playing this game will be running it on 10.1. Also agree that the 4870 used here should have been a 1-Gig model. And I'm not sure how recently 9600GT price drops have been happening, if it was too recent that might be why it didn't get included in the recommendation list. I got one for $70 a few months ago to mess around with PhysX, though that was post-rebate.

Let hope all the RPG Nvidia Players pick up the game... Most of my friends and me that like RPG are now firmly rooted at ATI camp. Due to recent Nvidia's dreaded mis-marketing!!

[citation][nom]scook9[/nom]Well I know that I just got a 4890 for my HTPC (I game on it) for $150 after rebate, so I will be happy no matter what this review shows.Got the HIS 4890 from microcenter but had them match the newegg price, $299 -> $199 then I still get the $50 MIR from microcenter You all should jump on that while the rebate is good[/citation]

It would appear that it's gone! D'oh.

Ok seriously, please stop using The Last Remnant for anything! No one plays this game. No one benches with this game aside from Nvidia fanboys. There's absolutely no reason to include that God awful useless waste of time in anything.

I don't think ATI will fix the Last Remnant driver issue fast just because some guy here is using it in his benchmark suite. It's not a big title.

Hey, i have a question... i can make a CF with a HIS 4670 turbo 512MB (same as review) with a HIS (or another brand) 4670 stock 1GB...??? it's because te HID HD4670 Turbo 512 not longer available 🙁

Still shows as "Deactivated" for me...

To add insult to injury, the 1GB version:

H467QSS1GP is sold out. It's also the one in their email deals with a $10 coupon code...

Yes, but you'll have to set the GPU clock to either the HIS's 780 or the other card's 750. The safe bet would be setting them to the other card's GPU clock rate, as the other card may not be stable at 780.

qwertymac93, the jump on video demands from 1440x900 to 1680x1050 is a big deal, probably a lot more than you would think, at 1680x1050 most 8600GT cards can't display the desktop if you got a lot of stuff on it

It was my understanding from the early articles about the HD 4770 that it was intended to be a good mid-level, energy efficient card. As things turned out two cards operating in Crossfire mode did fairly well also. I wanted one for a decent general purpose build. Yesterday I went to the Fry's Electronics store here in Phoenix, AZ. They had just received their first shipment of XFX HD 4770 cards. They've never had any in stock before. Inventories had been low for months. Unfortunately, the price went up by $20.00.
