[SOLVED] Router/Modem DS Light Blinking (Arris)

Ok, I've had this same thing happen twice now in the past month...

At some point at night, my router/modem (I have an Arris TG2482; pretty sure it's a 2 in 1 router/modem but I'll be referring to it as "router" from here on) reset itself as if my ISP (Suddenlink) reset it on their end and when it turns back on, the top most light (DS), besides the power light, blinks like it would normally do, however, it remains blinking while both WiFi lights (2.4g and 5g) turn on as if everything is working fine, however, the DS light just keeps blinking; and no other lights turn on.

I've searched around to see what this might indicate, but all Google searches come up with are Xfinity/Comcast or a different brand of router, so I've come here to see if anyone has any clue what this incessant blinking means for my router/ISP.

Thanks!

The partial service ones seem to be fairly common and don't cause much issue. The sync one pretty much means the modem had a major issue and reconnected with the ISP. You will see a outage when that happens.

You need to look at the signal levels. The exact recommended values vary a bit based on the type of docsis they are using. The tables are too large to cut and paste here.

In many cases it is your upstream power levels being too high that causes this. This means the ISP is having issues hearing your modem and has requested it to transmit at a higher level.

Although these issues tend to be outside your house and only the ISP can fix them you want to check that you do not have extra splitters in the path and all...
access the router menu and check the log

ask your ISP if any interference is going on in your region

The blinking can be a not established "downstream" (DS) which would be a problem either with the modem itself, the connection/cable to the wall or in the house or the connection from your house to the "ISP" or the ISP has a problem.

Other than that, if DS is blinking, it can indicate a firmware update which is usually made by night, remotely by your ISP

Both times it's done this, it disconnected around the same time; ~1 or 2 am. So, I'm thinking it was doing firmware updates both times, just don't know why there were two updates within a month of each other... But, both times I tried resetting the modem, even unplugging all the cords and plugging them back in, but it still just kept blinking... and when I get up the next day, it's working just fine.

And I don't like calling my ISP because Suddenlink has one of the worst customer service centers in the world, but they are the only fast (100Mb down) internet you can get where I live. I've been having issues with the bill where my dad pays it, but he doesn't live with me and for whatever reason every time he's paid my bill for the past 3 months, it credits his account as if he's paying his internet bill twice and so it looks like my bill hasn't been paid since Nov 2019. Even though they said they already fixed this issue in December...

I checked that ip address and the log shows multiple Timing Synchronization Failures followed by Partial Service and the occasional MDD Timeout... and this repeated on the 5th at 1:24 am about 8 times and finally at 1:25 am it shows a Maintenance Request. Then, Partial Service didn't come back until 1 pm and at 8:49 pm it says No Ranging Response Received. and that's the end of the log.

If it doesn´t happen more times, it might be a temporal limited problem and might be normal

The ISP usually can check the line to your modem in a view seconds. But while it is working, the line is fine as well.

Because you resetted the modem, the log might be not correct. Log into the modem while it is happening again
