Router setup with out a modem

I have a cat 5e cable running directly from the wall to the router a Linksys E2500 and all the setup info I have is with a modem. I do not have a modem and therefore can not get internet unless I plug the cat 5e cable directly into my computer. Can someone give me exact setup info on setting this router up without a modem. I have done a live chat with Linksys but it was much help since the links they sent me were the same pages I had already found and it didn't explain to a novice how to manuel set this router up without a modem.

Cable from the wall to the port labeled 'internet' and port 1-4 to computer, have you tried that?

yes I have, I set up router but I have no internet once it is set up, I can only access the internet by putting the cable directly in my ethernet connection on my laptop. I can't get the wireless router to accept the set up without a modem but supposed with the cat 5e cable you do not need a modem.
