Hi guysI just built a new pc and looking for new GPU. Currently running an Alienware AW3418DW monitor 34 inches at 3440x1440 resolution. I tried searching for benchmarks but could only find a few results on these two cards. Considering the 2080 Ti is almost 500 euros more than the 2080 super is it really worth the money? Planning on playing all AAA titles at maximum settings hopefully targeting 100FPS+ or anywhere near that. Also not planning on upgrading my GPU for at least 4 to 5 years.

Thanks in advance

4-5 years is a long time for a gpu that is running the latest AAA games. Go back 4 years and the 980Ti was considered overkill for 1080p, now it’s a good card for 100+ FPS but not ultra settings.

If me I’d be tempted to go 2080S as it does a decent job but with the intention of upgrading in maybe 3 years. I think expecting a 2080Ti to last 5 years at that high resolution is asking too much. However this is all speculation.

See for yourself if the extra frames are worth the 500 euro difference, personally I would say stick with a 2080s for now since rtx 3000 & high end navi gpus are bound to launch first half of 2020, if they're as good as nvidia or amd claim they will be, you can sell your 2080s & probably buy a far better card for not much more than you spent on the 2080s.

tldr: 2080ti & 2080s arent too far apart for 1440p and new, much better cards are coming in the next ~6 months

Thank you for your reply. I found the benchmark you posted however it's for 1440P which I assume means 2560x1440. Problem is I couldn't find that many results for these two cards @ 3440x1440. Assuming 3440x1440 is around 30% more pixels what kind of drop in FPS should I expect when compared to 2560x1440?

Thanks again

Yes I agree the 4-5 years I mentioned is purely for reference purposes. If you purchase an RTX card today it's more than likely it will be replaced by something superior in < 6 months. However my real problem with the 2080S was that it "only" puts out 75-85 FPS @3440x1440. I don't know if my monitor is overkill but I would expect something better from a high end card such as that at least 100 FPS just to take advantage of the high refresh rate (cap is @120Hz btw). It honestly boggles my mind that one has to spend upwards of 1000 euros just to get to the monitor cap.

I would look to the RTX 2080Ti...yes it will be superseded at some point next year but it is one hell of a power GPU and nothing can match it for pushing high resolution FPS. As with all things, they do eventually get superseded but in the RTX 2080Ti it will still be a powerhouse going forward for quiet some time to come..
