Hi, just a simple question.

was at the mall today buying some usb. Before going home, talked to the pc store that I'm on good terms with. They have an RTX 3060 ti 8GB and RTX 3060 12GB both on display.

the sales personnel let me hold the boxes. Was surprised when they said that their RTX 3060 12 GB is being sold at a higher price than their RTX 3060 ti 8GB.

question:
in this scenario, is 12 GB vram gpu really a lot better than the gpu with only 8GB? Even if the one with 8GB is a "ti" version?

Solution
Ti is just better regardless of less VRAM , rtx 3060 doesn´t have enough horse power to utilize 12gb of VRAM anyway
(at least in gaming) - rtx 3060 is 20-25% slower on average compared to Ti version .
(it´s even slower than 2070 super)

Simple and fast answer? 3060 ti 8Gb is much better.
More CUDA Cores (4864 ) (3584 in 3060).
256bit bandwidth instead of 192bit in 3060 .
And RT cores are also more efficency in Ti version, than 3060.

Both GPU will not handle 4K so 12Gb 192bit VRAM are not gonna be maxed out even with 1440p, what actually is not possible in 3060 without DLSS on. 3060Ti more likely but also DLSS helping a lot if you want to play at maxed settings.

For 1080p 6Gb VRAM is more than enough in 99% or cases.

thanks to all who posted for the useful information.

anyway, our conversation at the shop today went like this..

me: why is this 3060ti sold at lower price than this 3060? Perhaps, the 3060ti is defective? I was joking of course.
sales man: of course not, our 3060ti is brand new. Look, that 3060 is a 12 gb version. The 3060ti only has 8gb, so we have it on a sale price. :)
me: oh I see.. -- at this point, I hand back the gpu to them. Could not afford to buy another gpu right now anyway.

and the reason I'm in friendly terms with this store is because all my SSD came from them, and the GT 1030 I purchased during the gpu crisis was bought from them as well. hehe

Wow, such a knowledgeable store lol.. "Well this card has 12VRAM, it must be much faster.. give a higher price for it" 😲

Okey 3060 is quite new card, but is much slower than "only 8gb vram"... what store is this to avoid in the future ? lol

it's fine. I'm treated nice everytime I go there. They're probably not technicians.

well, this is new knowledge for me too. Will always go for the ti version even if it has less vram than the non-ti version when buying a new gpu.

Can a 3060 have better FPS then 3060ti? Yes. There are already games that if you set them to 4K with RT enabled they will use more then 8Gb of VRAM, and that will cause 3060ti to have worse FPS. Except on such settings we are talking about about 10 FPS for 3060, which is completely unplayable anyway so who cares. In every realistic scenario 3060ti beats 3060. With all respect the salesman you spoke to is a moron.

That's comletely understandable, I personally don't know everything, that's why I'm here to get that knowledge. But yeah, if I wouldn't knew either, then 12GB Vram would sound much better isn't ? And that's why in stores with staff like GPUs etc, they need someone with that knowledge having already. Not everything you can understand by only logical thinking.
