I was about to upgrade some time ago. But i saw prices falling even more so now im sure i will. I can grab asus tuf RTX 3080 for 850 and asus tuf RX 6900XT for 750. Monitor is asus PG279Q. It is gsync but ok i can use a frame limiter instead. Whitch of those 2 gpus can be decent in 1440p gaming for 4 or 5 years in your opinion. Probably im overthinking it i lean towards 3080. 4000 series os not an option where i live. Cheapest 4090 (1500 msrp) costs 2399. 4080 will probably be like 1500 so i will stay away.

TBH, I'd say you're restricted to better off going with Nvidia to keep the variable refresh with GSync.

I think the 6900xt is the faster card, but if your monitor is high end and doesn’t support freesync then you may wish to go with the 3080.

Looking at asus page on it I see no mention of freesync so the 3080 is probably a good option just to be able to take advantage of the features of the monitor.
My monitor was high end and after some research i can see it is still considered as one of the best in terms of gsync. But does it really make any difference? It needs vsync and fps capped again. I really forgot what gsync does. It seems that RX 6900xt could age a little better cause its has more vram. Or not?

At 1440p any of the cards will do pretty amazing, I would pick the RTX 3080 because of the gsync display.

As for the RX 6900XT with more VRAM, in all honestly, neither of this cards is a 4K native high refresh gpus. I mean there are a few games where you are able to get high refresh rates at 4K, but for newer games and future titles only way to get "higher" frames numbers will be using DLSS or FSR. Now, far as I know (I could be very wrong please someone correct me), you don't need a lot of VRAM if DLSS and FSR are enable, cause (in short) you will be rendering at a lower resolution and then upscaling the result.

5 years is very optimistic for any card. Just look how the 1080Ti does today.
My gtx 1080 can still play games with some tweaks. When i picked monitor i should have bought 1080p and things would be easier right now. I think 3090 and even 3080 can last 3 4 years of quality gaming on new releases

The real problem here in my country is that you cant get you hands on a 3080ti. Its just 50 cheaper than 3090. No point getting 3080ti

Where I live (Argentina) everything is hard to get, even if you saved enough and have the money to buy it... and after the global pandemic it got worst.
😭

Im trying to get my hands on a RTX 3070, but its very hard, I was really close a week ago.
