instead of making me waste my time reading a whole page of lies why could this not have been posted in the first paragrph kevin? GRRRRRR

Eventually the author behind the shots came forward and admitted that they were fake. That said, the roadmap listed above could be entirely fake as well.

[citation][nom]aaron88_7[/nom]I imagine Microsoft will use their monopoly to force businesses to upgrade by not supporting updates to XP, something they have talked about for some time, but ultimately I think this is just going to hand business to other emerging players such as Google.[/citation]

XP is a decade old now. The end of security updates for XP is 2014, which is equivalent to supporting Windows 98 today with security updates if you go by release time, ME/2k by release of a successor.

Ironically, the reason Vista got delayed until 2006 was because of XP. Not because it was good, but because it was being exploited left, right and center. The bad old days of XP SP1. If they were using a lack of XP updates to kill it, they'd have stopped back then with SP1.

[citation][nom]tpi2007[/nom]Agree! People jumpt OS versions all the time, just as they do with CPU's and GPU's. Only a minority has the money, enthusiasm and need to swap OS, GPU and CPU every year. Most people kept XP during Vista's lifespan and they didn't lose any critical functionality (at least 90% didn't as all software ran, and still mostly runs, on XP), Some people jumped from a single core Pentium 4 to a Core 2 Duo, and then jumped the Core 2 Quad straight to a Core i5 or i7; the same with GPU's: some people jumped the GTX 2xx series from a 8800GT/9800GT/GTX to a GTX 460. It happens all the time, and it works.[/citation]

LOL yea i was so happy i that a decided to skip windows ME :)

the only reason vista sucked is because joe blow try to install vista on there 10yo PC that could barly run XP. vista was a good OS

[citation][nom]DSpider[/nom]ARM ? Hmm... Sure. Though I read somewhere that they're going for a gaming approach.[/citation]

Gaming approach = Making 360 exclusives and showing finger at PC gamers

its about time Microsoft got back to a normal development cycle. How many Mac or Ubuntu OS's were released during the wait between WinXP and Vista?
The gap between Win 3, Win95, Win98 and then WinXP was a good 2 to 3 years, not 7 like the wait for Vista

I'll try win 8 but only to benchmark the OS. The only way I'll upgrade is if the new OS spanks win7. IMO, Win7 x64 does a beautiful job "talking" to the hardware, far better than XP and vista ever will! I don't see how they can do much better than this OS. The only way I think of, is if they re-develop the kernel from the ground up vs rebuilding the old kernel to work with the "new" OS... Just my two cents :)

I am inclined to believe the roadmap. It goes hand-in-hand with what Microsoft has been saying all along. I would gladly welcome advancement of Windows, even though 7 works great.

I'm still waiting here for a leaked beta, though.

Can I get it WITHOUT the cloud? I'd rather not be tied to an internet. And I'd rather be in control of my computer. If not, then I hope windows 7 will become the next XP and be supported at least a decade after its release.

"Hey guys, you all ready to move to the cloud?"
"Oh yeah, I can't WAIT to lose control of my computer!!"
"I'll say! But the best part HAS to be when they get their hands on all of our data, right? Especially with current data rates in some countries! (*cough*America*cough*) \sarcasm"

"RIGHT!!!"

This is all just a nightmare, right? Or maybe it's just a rumor.

It wasn't just joe blow - it was the OEM's that also tried to push Vista on machines WAY below specs - because MS's minimum specs ARE way to low.

Most businesses are still using XP and won't even think of going to Windows 7 until SP2 comes around, but with Windows 8 not much further in the distance many might just wonder if they need the upgrade in the first place.

Not really true many arent even waiting for SP1 partly due to the end of support deadline for XP. Most companies arent willing to risk not being able to get patched. We just deployed our first 300 only like 9700 more to go lol.

[citation][nom]aaron88_7[/nom]People may buy that way, but businesses don't and releasing Windows 8 so soon is another reason why businesses hate Microsoft. Most businesses are still using XP and won't even think of going to Windows 7 until SP2 comes around, but with Windows 8 not much further in the distance many might just wonder if they need the upgrade in the first place. I imagine Microsoft will use their monopoly to force businesses to upgrade by not supporting updates to XP, something they have talked about for some time, but ultimately I think this is just going to hand business to other emerging players such as Google. If Google can successfully target business users they could put a considerable dent in Microsofts profit margin, but that's a really big if of course.[/citation]

You make it sound like a bad thing MS would stop supporting XP which btw is 2x past its guaranteed support time that MS puts out there long before anyone got it. Obviously MS cannot force business to upgrade or every business would be running windows 7 right now instead of various versions of windows dating all the way back to windows 3.11 for workgroups. If they require features of a new OS well just like any other OS out there you need to upgrade. Microsoft has a limited time they will support aging software everyone knew about it when XP came out its no different now. Honestly i think they should have pulled the plug years ago. Most of the vista hysteria was just bs anyways. I used every release of windows after 2.0 and have yet to encounter any of the issues people post about on here. I'm pretty sure 90% of those are just people repeating what they read anyways. I'm happy with 7 just like i was vista and xp and sure ill be just as happy with 8.

Stop crying about how MS releases a new OS every 3 years or so. Who the hell doesn't? The price yeah well...... wouldn't be bad IMO if they didn't attach the damned thing to a computer and you could simply just install it on another with no issues on any and all versions.

I don't think i have any 10 year old + software that is still supported anymore. Anyone still clinging on to XP for whatever irrelevant reason should just be happy its lasted this long.

You apparently have no idea what the cloud is. The minimal use of cloud computing i have used links all my devices with a single program now allowing me to install that program anywhere i need to with out having to swap over any data because it is simply just there. Lose control over your computer? put the pipe down. You think they don't already have access to your data? Extensive security measures need to be in place but so far in my use its given me greater control over my programs and applications. Makes a lot of useless work i use to have to do now pointless. I have used online storage for a long time now with no issues this is just a much easier way of doing it.

@aaron you put to much faith in a toy OS.
