i was reading somewhere online about people doing a "rune run" to the
forge. i'm assuming this is the forge in act 4 where you have to bash
mephisto's soul stone in the forge?

my question is, what's so special about this that it's called a "rune
run"? is it because the forge dumps really good runes when you do it?
if so, how can one redo it? i just tried it and even though i killed
mephisto, he didn't drop a soul stone, and when i went to the forge
and killed hephisto, i didn't get anything.

do you have to not have the quests completed in order to do this as a
"rune run"? if so, how does one get that? or is it something that's
only worth doing on battle.net?

Yes it is the forge in act 4 but it has to be done with a new charchter
every time so u need to rush them though in a party game or have someone
help or even do it yourself with 2 PCs

Yes you need to constantly create new characters of which are rushed through
to Hellforge. Some pplz rush through to Hell Hellforge and then dump the
characters. Mainly because they enjoy the Rune drops. Myself i do constant
Countess runs. You don't need a great deal of rushing... Create a game with
a mule.... Change characters and kill Countess. Drops the runes but keeps
the quest intact for the Mule.

IMHO you didn't need to keep the quest open. Countess ever drops 0..3 runes
if killed.
Up to IO-rune in nightmare.
