I recently found this GPU in storage, It was a dry location and I wanted to test if it would work or not.
Booting up, everything ran fine until the drivers (WQHL) were installed and it randomly shuts the system off.
All components in my PC are confirmed functioning as intended and work fine with other cards.
The GPU seems to crash even when there is no thermal load present.

I've tried just about all I could potentially do to get this GPU to work with no luck.
  • BIOS Flashing had no avail.
  • Inspected the board with no components having any sort of damage or deterioration. (Best not to take my word for this, I am no expert.)
  • Lowering clocks has no effect on whether it will crash or not.
  • Tested in two different PC's with absolutely no difference in events.
  • Architecture is Baffin but GPU-Z Redirects me to the Polaris 11 Version?
  • Plays games but then crashes when not under load or crashes randomly midgame.
  • Using different video outputs makes no difference.
Genuinely at a loss as to what's wrong with this thing.

Baffin is based on the Polaris 11 silicone (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/amd-baffin.g796) which explains why GPU-Z is linking you to that.

I would suggest looking at windows event viewer for critical errors after a shut down to see if it provides any info on the cause of the crash. Looking at your sig it appears that machine is quite old, it might be worth checking if the card is more stable in a newer system, I know newer AMD cards can be fussy about bios support although chances are it could just be a faulty card.

I tested it in two PC's, One with a Xeon E5-1620 and another with an FX-6300, same results and event viewer couldn't collect anything so it was all Zero'd out.
