I am looking for a card for 1080p gaming at the highest settings. (I am looking into getting triple monitors or a nice 4k monitor later on but by the time i have saved up for that even buying something more expensive like a gtx1070 would be pointless) I have done so much research trying to figure out which card is better but all of the benchmarks i have found have been rendered basically useless because they are outdated and AMD has been catching up with their drivers. I want to know which card would be best for gaming with the best and most consistent performance across the board and if it would be better to save a little cash and get the lower end model of one of the cards with less vram and get a better cooler or go for the 8 or 6gb version of the 1060 or rx480 for 1080p?

Solution
yah the 8 gb of vram will help the card stay relevant for longer than the 4gb one. that extra $30 for the 8gb will let you get some extra time out of the card. as time goes by more and more vram is needed. was not too long ago 4 gb was more than enough but that has quickly been upped, hence the 6 gb 1060 and 8 gb 480.

yup pretty much equal overall. grab the one you like and is priced rigth and move on to the gaming :)

dx12 is better on the 480 and it will continue to take more and more of the newer games so it gets the nod from a lot of folks. if that matter to you, then go for that. if not, then grab whichever one. they are pretty much interchangeable in performance on average

i think im going to go for the rx480 because it is significantly cheaper than the gtx1060.
I'm either going to get this version for the 8gb:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150774&ignorebbr=1
Or this version for the 4gb card:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202225&ignorebbr=1

These are the cheapest with what i can tell from research good coolers. I have a newegg gift card so i want to get something from there.
If I go with one of these two cards it is a $30 price increase to go for an 8gb version. I don't know if that would be worth it for the performance gains.

The RX 480 had a nice boost with newest drivers. Nvidia's GPUs tend to lose performance over time.
