RX480 vs R9 290X

Hi i have this GPU http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4884#ov but its TDP is 300w which makes it very hot, i saw that RX480 8gb version is similar performance to R9 290X but with 150w TDP, is it worth buying it, because price is not that high 250 gbp for this one http://www.xfxforce.com/en-us/products/amd-radeon-rx-400-series/rx-480-gtr-black-8gb-dd-led-rx-480p8dba6 saw some videos that gigabyte one is not cooling well, and that xfx does cooling well and have oc room

IMO it would be a waste of money, I would try a few things first...

-Create a custom fan profile with a program such as MSI Afterburner.
-Dust out the card to ensure its clean.
-Reapply the thermal paste on the GPU with MX4.

These should help lower the temp at least a few degrees Celsius.

@WildCard999 is right, my Master 290x was running at nearly 75C while running GTA V on ultra when i first installed them. That might not be a world ending temp but it was annoying me so i replaced the thermal paste and copied OC3D's Afterburner Fan profile and now my Master 290x runs at around 68C under load and the slave 290x rarely breaks 50C.
I'd personally wait for Vega before thinking about upgrading the 290x.

Does the heat bother you? Do you use your computer in a small not well ventilated room? Other than that I can not understand why you would want to do this, like you said it performs the same. Is it worth it to you to spend 250 pounds on a cooler running card that performs the same? I highly doubt you would ever make up that 350 in your power bill either. In my opinion that would not be worth the money at all.

mine is running max 70c when playing need for speed 2015 1080p ultra settings

^70c is not even slightly hot for any GPU under a gaming load mate, most of the 480s run mid 70's.

They're also far closer to 200w than 150w , some can push 220w under stress test loads.

I agree with madmatt30, 70C is nothing, especially for that GPU. I had a reference R9 290 that ran 92C constantly and I never had to use a heater in my room during the winter months lol. Even my SLI configuration on highest load the top GPU gets up to around 80C and is still well within safe temps.

I just mentioned it to give him an idea of the temp difference a few simple things can make. 70C is nothing to worry about at all its average for most ordinary cards.
