I am currently running a Ryzen 5 5600x + RX 6600 combo with 32GB 4000MHz CL18 RAM on an A520i mobo. I mainly play VALORANT and GTA V and would like to stream on Twitch while doing so. I've found someone who is willing to trade their Ryzen 7 5700X for my 5600X for about 35-40 USD converted. Will this upgrade improve my gaming (while streaming) experience given that I get extra cores and threads even if OBS is set to gpu encoding? Or is x264 encoding going to be an open option for the 5700x?

Do note that I do not plan on changing my graphics card since my build is in a Mini ITX case that only fits cards up to 195mm in length, and higher cards that fit within that margin is hard to come by here in the Philippines as I only buy used due to financial constraints. I am only really looking for opinions on whether or not swapping my CPU for that amount is worth it for the results I hope to get. Thank you!

Two extra cores and 4 extra threads for just a mere 40 bucks? That's a good deal, since it helps with streaming (multitasking) more. Won't increase your game FPS though, since single- and quad-core performance is same between both CPUs.

Now, if you were to buy R7 5700X brand new at the price of ~180 bucks, then the two cores and 4 threads wouldn't be cost effective.

Why would someone trade 5700x for 5600x + 40$? Doesn't really make sense, can this person be trusted?
When to think about it, R7 5700X might be dead, whereby doing the trade, trader gets working CPU + 40 bucks for their effort as well.

So, better to make sure the CPU works, seeing it in a running system.

Sell your 5600x and upgrade to 7 series i think.
Besides new CPU, this also means new AM5 MoBo and new DDR5 RAM as well. So, quite costly.

I didn't think too far ahead there, just quickly assumed dropping 7 series in. I do know better just not in that instance lol.
Brain fart? 😆

Could sell motherboard/ram too i guess :)
Well, selling the old hardware is easier when sold as working set: CPU-MoBo-RAM combo.

New CPU-MoBo-RAM combo, at bare minimum, costs 400 bucks.
Like so:

But since OP isn't in US, it can be more costly as well + availability issues.

Hey there,

To answer your question, an 8core/16t CPU will be much better for gaming/streaming. In fact it would be a minimum I'd suggest. Streaming from the PC you are gaming on takes up a lot of CPU grunt, and also from the GPU. Unless using a secondary system to do the leg work for streaming.

With the 5600x you are probably hitting high usage (80-100%). The RX6600 is a decent enough GPU, but not ideally suited to gaming and streaming simultaneously.

I'm not suggesting you go and get a 5700x, only that it would be the min for your needs. Sadly, you need a stronger GPU too, that can push high FPS, and when streaming take the knock, so your in game experience is still of a high quality. Doing that with a RX6600 , means it will be difficult do get better video output.

I use a laptop with a capture card to offload the CPU/GPU on my game machine, whilst recording with the laptop. Works a treat.

Maybe that's the way to go rather than splurge over 400£$ for a start to a new system.
