Hello all!

Bit of background... I've recently changed my PC build to ITX (so it's more portable) and I've changed the CPU from a 3900XT to a 5600X because I couldn't find a cooler that was powerful enough to both efficiently cool the 3900XT and also fit my case.

I purchased the 5600X to negate these issues, however, whenever I add this CPU to my build and power the PC on, the motherboard (MSI B450I Gaming Plus AC) shows a constant white 'CPU' light.

I then put the 3900XT back into the build and the PC booted up as usual. I put the 5600X back into the build, and the same happens... I get a white CPU light on the motherboard and the PC doesn't even boot to BIOS...

Does anyone know why this is happening? All other website posts are leading me to believe it's a faulty CPU but I wanted to check with the PCSpecialist experts before I came to that conclusion! I've checked the 5600X and there are no bent pins - looks like it's in good condition. It's brand new too.

Many thanks!

I feel like i'm going to throw up, the 3900XT is a great CPU. Assuming your board supports Ryzen 5000 which it looks like it does from AGESA ComboAm4v2PI 1.2.0.7 then it sounds like your missing the latest bios. May I ask what case you have?

Thank you for your responses! I have the coolermaster elite 110. I have a noctua NHL9i cooler as thats all I can really fit in the case as the PSU takes up a lot of space. As you said the 3900XT is a superb CPU.. probably the best I've ever had.. but I wasn't comfortable cooling it with the noctua.

Oh ok that is rather tiny, I was thinking a 120mm AIO would be better but doesn't look like you can fit one. I think the only way to keep a 3900XT in check temperature wise would be to limit the clock speed in some way with either a power limit or to limit it's max boost frequencies. It's just such a good CPU it's a shame not to use it.

Yes its a tiny case! I needed something portable. This is why I'm swapping to a less powerful processor because I can't make the most of the 3900XT. I currently have the ratio lowered so it's not overheating but I'm not using it to its full potential which I hate, so I'm selling it.

Oh I see, fair enough. The only other solution would be to change the case. There are some iTX cases that can take 240mm AIO's but you would probably have to creep up in size a little.
