Question Ryzen 5700x3d + 32gb ram OR 9700x + 32gb ram + motherboard

i have b450m motherboard + 2400mhz 8gb + 3000mhz 8gb ram + ryzen 5500 cpu + rx6800xt gpu
im thinking about upgrading my system which cpu should i buy? if i buy 9700x im gonna buy new motherboard and rams
my budged is 700 dollars

If you can afford it, I would suggest making the jump to AM5, so you have future upgrade options, and have a more modern platform.

With that GPU, you might not see much of a difference between the two. The point is future support. Your next GPU might require you to upgrade CPU. You have no upgrade path with AM4, so it is guaranteed you will have to do a full platform change. AM5 you might only have to worry about a CPU swap. Also as you are on B450, you are stuck with slower PCI-E for storage and graphics. You can always sell your current hardware, to help make up for some of the extra cost, as well.

Hard to say really. Much depends on what you play and at what resolution. Games are only getting more demanding, after all.

other day i was playing last of us p1 and the game was using 15gb vram at 1080p max settings idk man i hope it will be ok for next couple years

You might want to play around with graphics settings. Some can be overly demanding for very little difference in visuals.

A 9000 series non-X3D CPU is is going to get similar FPS to a 5700X3D. If i had to guess I would say a 9000 series CPU would age much better than a 5700X3D. The answer to what you should do come from what you want out of the purchase. If just want more FPS now with the least work and on the heap a 5700X3D is a good fit. If you want a similar performance upgrade to a new platform that is even more upgradable in the future, the AM5 platform is a good fit., but is more work and more expensive than getting a 5700X3D.
