Just got mine tonight. I am trying to learn the programing software.
Does anyone have any files for F4, FS 2004 or LOMAC? Or can you give
me some advice for programing, besides reading the manual, which I
will do. I just want to try some stuff yet tonight.

Thanks

I have a new X52 myself, and am wondering if you have to install the SST
programming software before you can program the buttons on the joystick?
Is there a manual method to program the buttons? I guess the SST is called
up only when you need to go into programming mode anyways, so it doesn't get
loaded during regular game play for example?

I want to try using the X52 with the least amount of installed software
(other than the X52 drivers which I already installed from the CD) to see if
there is a fps penalty for the addition of the full software suite.

For Advance Users, other functions you have to install (if you desire):
Saitek Magic Mouse (enables the mouse pinky on the throttle)
HID-compliant mouse (heck if I know what this is for)
Saitek Magic Keyboard (assume you have to have the Saitek keyboard for this)
HID Keyboard Device (need Saitek keyboard for this?)

So far I am impressed with the X52. I will have to hard mount them to a
wooden board before I can really get precise using them (including the
twisting rudder).

There's a very limited selection of profiles available on the Saitek web
site:

Combat Flight Simulator 3
F22 Air Dominance Fighter
Falcon 4.0
Flight Simulator 2004
IL-2 Sturmovik
Independence War 2
Lock On: Modern Air Combat
Mechwarrior Mercenaries
X2: The Threat

Using other people's profiles presents a greater difficultly for remembering
what button does what. But by looking at them and then creating your own
profile,
you will remember the commands much more readily. To each his own however.

You should install all the Saitek software from the CD. You will need the
manual, Control Panel and SST programming software. You can update your SST
software directly through the Control Panel "About" tab.

The hard copy manual won't be much help; it's thick because it contains the
same thing in four languages. There are really only 30 pages of information
and much of that is a warranty disclaimer and Saitek contact directions. All
the help you need is available through the GUI "help" tab on the toolbar
under "Manual".

Be sure to visit Saitek on the web and get the latest SST update of
4.3.3.1727. I don't know why but I have 4.3.3.2000 software version and
5.0.0.2000 as the driver version. Perhaps these versions have been pulled.
The SST software update appears to be no longer available from the "Control
Panel" as I'm getting a blank page.

You can obtain both Driver and SST software from the link below:

http://www.saitekusa.com/usa/down/sstdown.htm

The SST GUI is self explanatory and the way to approach it is to do simple
things first. Bring up the Profile Editor and stay with Shiftstate mode 1.
Just program a few buttons on the stick by hovering your mouse cursor over
the graphical representation of the area of the flight stick and then right
click there to select the appropriate method. I recommend "New Key Presses"
first. You'll quickly get the idea and be able to remember what you have
programmed. Once that is seated in memory program a few more buttons or try
your hand with the rotaries and select "New Macro" or "New Advanced
Command". These will require you to pull up the manual to get the proper
idea of how they are supposed work. Once you're comfortable with the GUI,
switch to Data View. This way you will be expanding your understanding in
ascending order.

It's unfortunate that Saitek doesn't have a toggle command like Foxy but you
now own an exceptionally function laden HOTAS for a third the price of the
Cougar.

I also have software version 4.3.3.2000 for my X52, and from what I can
gather from the Saitek website the 4.3.3.1727 version is for the X45, I may
be wrong tho :-0.
My X52 control panel for latest updates takes me here;

Cheers

I've just bought an X52, unfortunately there was no driver CD in the
box. I don't suppose anyone could send me them, either via e-mail or
file transfer on MSN Messenger?
