Last week i upgraded from a GTX 1060 to an RTX 5050 but my FPS in Valorant is the same...
In other games like killing floor 3 and black ops 6 i get x3 more FPS.

What i have tried:

- install invidia drivers with ddu,
- update nvidia drivers

I've seen someone get an average of 380FPS with an RTX 5050 + i5 12400F, but i only get 240FPS average... even with my settings tuned down.

specs:
RTX 5050 8GB
i5 14400F
4x GSKILL DDR4 4GB RAM 2133 MT/s
Samsung M.2 SSD 980 500GB
MSI pro b760m DDR4

So you have vsync on and the display settings configured?

Also what’s the point exactly? You’re not seeing the extra frames

I have a 280Hz monitor, and I upgraded my GPU so that Valorant could match that refresh rate. I keep V-Sync disabled (I prefer it that way), and I’ve set my monitor to 280Hz.

What seems strange is that my FPS didn’t improve after upgrading my Gpu.

But you’re not gaining anything from 280Hz except more heat and noise?

You probably have a cap or your FPS was limited by your CPU

I want to achieve the smoothest possible gameplay on my monitor. I have set a cap of 280FPS, but i never reach this amount unfortunately. In intense situations my FPS even drops below 200FPS...

Let me break it down for you:

1. If you upgrade your GPU and don’t see a fps increase (and don’t have a frame rate cap obviously), you are CPU limited.

2. If you should NOT expect to be CPU limited (you have a quite modern CPU after all), it is a good indicator that your RAM is slowing down your CPU, causing the same sort of side effects that look like being CPU limited.

3. Looking at your specs, it is clear that your RAM is the cause here. You are using 4 sticks of very low speed RAM, holding back your CPU holding back your new GPU.

4. An ideal RAM setup will consist of only 2 sticks of RAM operating at high speeds and low latency. You should probably get a 16 GB kit with 2 sticks of RAM (2 X 8 GB), operating at 3600 MHz+ with a low latency rating (CL14-CL16).

Thank you for the explanation, i will be looking to upgrade my RAM setup to these specs.

Volerant is more CPU heavy then GPU heavy and those games tend to prefer faster ram speed

You will not see the difference between 144 and 280, you are literally falling for a marketing gimmick. Tests have been done and there’s no appreciable difference in performance between 144 and 240 never mind 280. Ifs called finishing returns, 30-60 is a noticeable difference, 60-120 is noticeable but nowhere near as severe, 120-240 you basically won’t see a difference. Plus your internet connection trumps everything anyway because that’s the largest latency.
