To summaries, the light on the top of the hard drive has turned off. The device once plugged into a computer does turn on and shows up, however it is completely blank, when you try and open it, it takes a very long time to load up and then just shows an error message. The drive will also not say how much storage capacity it contains either. The device was completely fine up until we tried to use it this evening, this morning we transferred some files to it and used them fine and was only later that it did start to not work. Just mainly want to know if their is definitely no chance we can salvage it, we have backups of most of the stuff on the drive so its not a massive issue, but it is a nice hard drive we've used for quite a bit and would like to know our chances on getting it started again.

Check the voltage coming out of its Power Supply.
You may also have an issue with the internal bridgeboard voltage regulators for the 5v & 12v that the drive actually needs.
So if the power supply is good then you can disassemble the D3 and put the drive into your pc (you need a sata cable and a power connector from your PC's PSU) or you can install it into another USB Enclosure.
