Can anyone tell me where to look on the packaging or on the monitor itself to tell if I'm getting the "A" or "S" LCD panel? Would like to be able to know before purchase if possible.

Thanks

FYI, the sticker is behind the cover that hides the connectors. If the monitor is shpped with the cover on you'll have to take it off to see (it's made to just pop off/on). The "A" and "S" is written after the model number on the top of the sticker.

Just want to say. There really isnt a big difference from the two. Yes, the S models are made by samsung, however, the A models are still made in a quality 3rd party manufacturer that is very keen on keeping the business samsung provides for them. In reality, the 3rd part manufacturer, otherwise known at "A", is more motivated to employ higher quality checks, to maintain its relationship with samsung. I cant say that S is better than A, but in my case, I got an S model and still had some of the issues affecting A models. Just saying this so you don't feel bad about getting an A model, because it really shouldnt be looked at as a bad thing.

After all, your intel CPU could have come from several different fabs, yet all hold the same stringent quality reasurance plans to protect the intel brand and image of quality.

If anyone here has an A sammy model, please post your experience with it, so we can relagate that information to form a proper conclusion. As for right now, its all heresay, nobody actually knows if A or S is better, they just assume in-house is better than the out-house (teehee).

Amigos! FYI, I picked up my monitor tonight and I got the, drumroll please, "S" panel. WhooHooo! But I would still be interested, as eric54 posted to hear good/bad stories about the "A" panel if they're out there.

Thanks again for your opinions. I can always count on you guys for that!

If you check NewEggs reviews of this monitor you'll see one where a guy got 3 "A" models at CC all of which had problems. There are a few other posts there on "A"s with issues

Just learned of the "A" and "S" designations yesterday while researching for a new larger set. I have a 3 year old Samsung LN3250something that we've just loved. Off center view is very good. Great color, great white, decent blacks. Thought standard def upscaled poorly at first, but it is no longer an issue, for whatever reason. I started with component wiring, went to HDMI. Don't know if that made the difference, but it is quite good now, except for poor sources. I suspect the real solution was the sources improving in the last few years.
Anyway, this morning, I checked for the panel mfr designation on the model/sn sticker. At the top right, hanging alone away from any other text is the A, made in Tijuana, Mexico. I suspect the "S" panels are made in Korea. I'm guessing on the outside of the box somewhere it would say "Made in Mexico" or "Made in Korea". That would probably be the clue you need if you're worried about it.
Can anyone confirm or refute?

I could compare side by side two monitors (A and S). It was two years ago, but I must say, at least then the difference was quite large, both in color reproduction and in reproduction of black (homogeneity of it over the whole screen). If you can, do get S.
