Otherwise I would have had to download from Heidoc, which now gets a periodic bizarely small release of OEM licenses from Microsoft, and is out of them now.
"o restore the computer to the initial state, you should select Computer Initial Status and perform the restoration process according to the on-screen instructions. "
You can try this 1. Turn on the computer and press the F4 key when the boot screen (SAMSUNG) appears. After a moment, the computer boots up in restoration mode and the Samsung Recovery Solution screen appears.
But this CD will have come with the Samsung RF511 I had before I bought this newer one to replace it (the hard drive crashed, I was very rough with it). Does it matter that the disk was intended for another laptop, exactly the same brand and model?
Hard drive does not matter, the repair guy probably tried to clean install windows 7 on the laptop, hence the repair partition got wiped out. But If you want to test then plugin the cd now you can try to boot from it and do "complete restore" from the advanced menu, if there is no option for that select "Computer Initial Status "
Why would I need to update the bios? The one they offer me is from 2011, older than the laptop. Isn't the bios somehow built into the laptop, ie lose your hard drive you still have your bios? And my bios is here, accessible, working...
In laptops there is vbios (controls your gpu) also stored on the chip, and firmwire updates also can be for ec bios which controls battery charging, power on function etc. It "might" solve your issue since we dont even know what it is at this point, your not only losing touchpad function but keyboard too telling its something else than just software.
Well if you have USB mouse you could try that, disabling touchpad might fix the issue for the rest of the pc.
After you change settings you need to press F10 to save the settings.
