For one thing, it means that I have sadled myself with Windows 7 instead of the Windows 10 update which I got just in time. For another it means that I have un-installed a lot of apps. But I suppose it also means that I know that I have a hardware problem, vis, the touchpad.

Wait, alot of information at once. Did the recovery to windows 7 make the keyboard etc work fully?

Hold on a second, you can still test the touchpad "causing the issue" when you try enabling it (in bios) in this current operating system. If touchpad works now, reset to windows7 solved the issue.

Also the touchpad was not the main issue these can fail often, it was the keyboard and stuttering what was main issue which pointed me thinking its hardware related.

EDIT: if enabling the touchpad causes the issue with stuttering and keyboard not working again then you just leave it disabled in bios

No, no....what happened was this. I "reset" the computer, deleting a lot of stuff in the process. The reset did not help. I tried to install Windows 7 from the Samsung disk that I found, and could not. Then I unplugged my wireless mouse from my Desktop and plugged it in to the laptop, and everything now works. But it is tiresome of course, because to write this message to you (for instance) I have to replug the mouse in to the Desktop on which I was writing it. Yes, it seems to be the touchpad which caused the stuttering.

So now your keyboard all keys are working fine and no issues left when touchpad is disabled in bios? Just keep it disabled and you can make this thread solved. So you are still running windows 10 but it has been reset? Get a wireless mouse those are quite cheap

Yes...as you say - I AM running Windows 10. I didn't realise that, because so many apps were uninstalled, and it looked so primitive. And indeed it seems that everything works. I am still a little uncertain, so much has been uninstalled.... but I believe so. I am ordering a new wirekless mouse as I write

Well that was such an enormous stress, and thank you for guiding me through it. It is now well past my bed-time, so I suppose I ought to deal with the rest of this tomorrow morning. Where are you located? I am in Bristol, UK, which is about 2 hours west of London

Im from finland, its super late but im doing night shift next week so gotta stay up for new slee schedule. Glad i could help. You should mark this thread solved with the post which "solved" the issue, i guess my #47 post was closest. Hard to say. :)

Very good. When I used to live in Manila, Philippines, a Filipino friend of mine had a special interest in Finland, I think sheer exoticism for him (he had never been and probably never will). We were in a lunch club called the Finoys (Filipinos are called Pinoys) which was a mix of Finns and Filipinos, including the former President Ramos, who shared my friend's fascination with your country.

Tell me where I put 'solved'? This is the first time something has really been solved and obviously I want to mark it.

I am not seeing any up and down arrows nor do I see a trophy!
