Samsung SSD Drive Space Disappearing

My computer is only a few months old, but there's something wrong with my SSD drive already. I moved a lot of things from it to the other drive and deleted a lot of things, but the space just dropped from 7GB to 5GB. I selected everything on the SSD drive and noticed that there isn't nearly enough files to fill up so much space: http://i.imgur.com/d0srR93.jpg

Free space: 5,73GB
Used space: 42,9GB
42,9 - 111 = 68,1
So what the fu*k?

I recommend that you download WinDirStat and run it from an admin account. It's a really good tool for finding where your space went.
Have you emptied your Recycle Bin? If you just delete a file, it's still taking up space in the recycle bin until, well, something or other.

Thank you. Hiberfile.sys and pagefile.sys were taking up a lot of space as the utility showed me.

So I thought I solved this, but I just freed up 20 GB of space. A few weeks later I'm back to 9GB of free space, 37,6GB of space on disk and 111GB in total. This is gonna become a big problem soon and I have no idea what to do. WinDirStat only shows me what I have on the disk and nothing else. It's like the space just vanishes. 🙁

1) Are you running windirstat with admin privileges? I always see it account for all the space. It shows swap files, page files, files in the recycle bin...
2) Have you emptied the recycle bin?
3) Can you post images from WinDirStat and from Disk Status?

I've the same problem here with an Samsung EVO 840 (250GB). Windows Explorer is showing 23 GB free of 233 GB total. Running WinDirStat from an admin account says that 94GB is used. Tried to clean up with windows on-board tools, but only ~2 GB could be set free.

I suspect that this space occupying started after running the Samsung Performance Restauration tool.

Magician says that I have the latest firmware. Don't know what to check else...

Update: solved it by removing "Wiederherstellungspunkte" (Restauration points???)

Restore points. It's basically an image of your files, taken by Windows at certain times like installs that affect system files etc, so if something goes wrong, you can restore to a previously working good environment. What sucks about restore points is 2 things. They do take up a considerable amount of space after a while, and if you use cleaner programs to delete them, they aren't there when you need them. So care must be taken not to delete all of them, just any old ones. I try and keep 5 active, so even if I installed 3 programs, updates or whatever, I still have at least 2 workin good ones I can flip back to.

Look at the actual settings for the Restore points. Current size and percentage of the drive space.

Your pic shows 40Gb in Temp? That's a huge amount of space there, usually taken up with old install files etc. I'd open that up some and get rid of anything that's not needed. Or have cleaner do it for you, it can be set to clean temp directories, and that includes ie/chrome browser temps etc.

I realize this is an older post; but I had a similar issue on my Lenovo Yoga 13. No matter how much space I created on the C drive it would just be used up right away.,

Here is the solution that worked for me. I have been using One Drive (called Sky Drive in the file folder). One Drive wants to put as much as possible on the C drive for offline use. But it was just taking all of the available space. I moved the location of the local One Drive files to an external drive. It freed up 14GB on my C drive and it appears to stay off.

I have no idea why One Drive suddenly kicked into gear here, but now I have the space I need.
