Hello there! I just bought this GPU and I have a few questions about temperatures and fan behavior.

This is my rig:
5800x3D
MSI x570 A-PRO
16x2GB 3600mhz
Noctua NH-D15
Bitfenix Formula 650w
Corsair 4000D
6 noctua fans (3 intake 3 exhaust)
Resolution is 3440x1440

Idle temps are 35-40c GPU Core, 40c hotspot, 60c memory junction sensor.

GPU reaches 65c on GPU core, 80c on hotspot sensor and 92c on the memory junction sensor when passing synthetic tests like Time Spy or gaming and fans starts to run until 2000-2300RPMs.

And fans behave really strange, zero rpm works fine until GPU hits 50 and then starts to run and stops when GPU drops down to 40c and so on. the problem is that GPU reaches that temp of 50c while navigating (tipically watching videos / Netflix) so the fan cycle repeats every a couple of minutes and its annoying.

Questions:
1. How normal and good are these full load temps? Will they harm the GPU?
2. I have tried to change the fan curve to avoid the behavior when browsing but I think the zero rpm thing is set by the firmware, so unless I flash bios (which I will never do) I suspect that theres nothing to do so the question is, setting low rpms when GPU is idling (like 500-600RPM) will wear away the fans?

That would be my questions, thank you for reading this!

I don't think any of those temps are problematic, IIRC the VRAM is rated up to 100C. I think zero RPM mode is designed to do that. 80C on the hotspot is a perfectly normal 15-20C difference from the core temp. 65C is a perfectly fine temp on the core. as long as the temps are not causing performance issues ingame, you should be fine.

So, my goal is to keep my GPU as long as I can (years, tbh), thats the reason I am asking, so as long as temps stays like that, is it safe? and fans spinning even at low rpms is also okay?

Thank you.

Modern GPUs are designed to run for years at temps below 90C. the fans are also designed to last for years with normal use. The only way you would have the fans at max all the time is if you either set it that way (not recommended) or you are doing crypto mining. I doubt that you have done either so I think you are fine. similarly, modern CPUs are designed to run at 95C safely for years.

Uhm, thank you! I was thinking on returning this card and getting a 4070ti... but, I think I am going to stay like this, so far...

Quite hot, in comparison to my TUF ASUS model. The TUF model from ASUS is top tier, sadly mindshare controls mostly what people get, many believe Sapphire to be the best.

I use the same case too.

For an experiment I am going to download 3D Mark Timespy and run it in a video so you can see how hot my card gets.

Your card at stock?

EDIT.. it's here too on GURU 3D.

Your cooler on the Sapphire is slightly worse at cooling than the reference one on the XTX.

I see, so basically Sapphire is not that good as people thinks? Passive cooling is not its best, but once fans start spinning until +2000RPM, temperature drop down quite fast.

According to that review, Im in the range, same idle and full load temps, except for the memory junction, which is not shown on the review.

Yep, temps are stock, UV doesn't do much.

I have ran TimeSpy on my card, it's not fully stock as it is running some of the best paste, Prolimatech PK-3.

At 345W it is outperforming the stock results on Guru 3D by 5C on the GPU core and the hotspot only hits 75C max, at stock it won't go passed 59c on the hot spot and 40c on the GPU core. The fans peak at 2100 RPM in both tests.

Video is uploading.

Thanks, would like to see it but according to what youre saying, it's not that far from my results, right?

Time Spy results throws me 27k on graphic scores and temps after passing the test are 60-65c core, 78-80c hotspot and memory junction is 90c (sometimes 92c). I would like to see the video once is uploaded.

How high is your memory junction temp sensor?

Thank you.

My score is 22K due to OBS recording, my card don't have a memory temp sensor.

If I OC the card balls to the wall I will hit 80c+ on the hot spot but am then reaching core speeds of 2.8 - 3ghz+.

Sweet, but then that means your temps are pretty similar to mine, right? Except for the memory junction sensor, which your card doesn't have.

What speeds are you hitting in the bench?

I left my card at just 2720 for the bench, I don't know it's real score yet without heavy load dropping it.

Video is still processing. Oddly overbright too...

I see, thanks for the video, you are reaching low 70s on synthetic tests, if delta on hotspot is 10c aprox. that would mean your hotspot is 80c or low 80's, right? Good score, you hit 27k just as me!

Stock settings and PL +15 I am gettiong 2800-2900mhz speed on the clock!
