Would the 24 pixel pipelines in the 7900 beat the 16 pipelines and faster clock in the Sapphire

The X1800 XT has better shader architecture and performs better in advanced games.

It's close, but I'd pick the X1800 XT over the 7900 GT.

Well, I can now speak from personal experience.

My Sapphire X1800XT arrived today, I had a couple hours to toy around
before I had to work (where I'm at currently).

My previous card was a 7800GT, I must say, I'm quite impressed.
I know I might sound like a broken record, but the IQ is far superior,
I feel the texture and color blend to be a little more natural to my eye.

The card is NOT as warm as what many say, I'm idle @ 38C and load around 47-51C stock solution. I havent bothered pushing the clocks or run any benchmarks....however when I get the chance I'll post some results. I realize I'm comparing to my 7800GT, but I'm just giving my
feelings.

EDIT: I realize in previous posts I said I was buying an XL, however I decided to drop the extra $40 and pick up the XT....just so you think I'm NOT blowing smoke. 8)

did you use any extra cooling?

Havent OC'd yet.... 🙁

I've seen results with people breaking 700mhz core on the stock
cooling solution (although I wouldnt recommend it) but there
fan speed is 100% full time. Fan speeds and frequencies can be changed
via ATItool. ---you can find it just about anywhere online.

As for GPU cooling. You could try the Rev 2 Zalman Fatal1ty solution,
I've read their quite nice. Artic cooling Has the X2 for the X18 and 1900 series. However I'm not quite sure if they produce a silencer model yet...
