Apologies for my ignorance here, but I'm a bit out of date with the whole SATA and IDE thing.

I have a new PC, I expect it has an SATA HDD. I want to add a DVD Burner, but it's not clear to me if I need an IDE Burner or an SATA one.

Am I correct in assuming SATA uses a different cable type to IDE?
Are there IDE and SATA Burners?
And am I likely to find support for both on my motherboard?

Thanks,

Different cable type: Yes.
IDE & SATA Burners: Yes (I have seen an SATA burner advertised for sale... really!).
Support for both: Yes, but get IDE - its much more common and cheaper right now.

Before you buy however, crack that thing open and make sure you have an IDE channel available to plug it into. Not knowing anything else about your system, it probably has one available, but its always best to be sure.
