Hello to you.

I am wanting to upgrade to my CPU as this laptop still has a lot of potential with the 2GB NVIDIA graphics card and I want to run a i5 / i7.

Could you provide me a list of the top 3 preforming CPU's of the i5 and the i7.

Details: Toshiba Satalite P850-30V (pspkbe-06601rmd)

Thank you for any support

It's not a question of the top-performing i5 and i7; it's a question of what will run on that motherboard.

My usual answer for notebooks is that the CPU is soldered in place and can't be replaced. However, I looked up your machine and it seems to come with an i3-2350M processor, which uses a PPGA988 socket. That may be removable. Were I you, the first thing I would do would be to check if the processor is soldered to the socket or removable. If it's soldered in place, forget about it.

If it's actually removable, you are looking for the best processor that will run in that socket. You may have to remain in the same "generation" of processors, as the motherboard may not support later generations. That's a second-generation...

Actually, were I you, I would send an inquiry to Toshiba.

The highest second-gen i5 is the i5-2450M. I can't guarantee that your motherboard will take an i5. The highest second-gen i3 is the i3-2370M, which is only one step up and not worth your time.
