We have Microsoft Fax set up on a PC for receiving
faxes. We've set the "Store a copy in the folder" option
in the Configure Fax wizard to a network share, which the
program accepted. However, when faxes are received, they
are not being copied to the network share. We've tried
entering the share by browsing to it, and by typing the
share in the path box. Nothing works. Is this a
limitation of MS Fax or is there something we're missing?

Thanks

I've certainly never seen any evidence that would suggest this would work.
It certainly doesn't here.

I assume that you are using Windows XP. Now see if there are fax related
events in the event log. This is most likely an access issue. Make sure the
share has the required permission for the Fax server in xp to archive the
faxes.

Fax service runs as Network Service account, and this is the account which
is used to store the folder. There are 2 choices
1. Network Service account when goes over the network, presents the
machine -names credential. So in the actual folder you can set a ACL which
enables the machine-name ACL to give write access. i.e. Open explorer on the
remote computer, right click on the share and give permission to the
COMPUTERNAME of the Fax Server (receiving Faxes).
2. Stop Fax Service (net stop faxsvc). Make a connection to the folder (net
use * <folder>). Now start Fax Service (net start faxsvc). Now because of
the way Windows fileserver works, it will use this established connection to
save the file.

Anand
