Screen flickering while playing games.

Hi guys, 2 days ago i bought this new HD screen Acer V246HL 24". Everything is fine when i'm normally using my PC, watching movies / videos. But when i play a game, my screen flickers and some black horizontal distortion lines start appearing, they are very minimal in bright areas in the game, but in dark areas they are more visible. It can't be my GPU as i bought it only 3 months ago, till before 2 days i had no problems with this card i was playing games on a 19" screen with 1366x768.

As soon as i turn off the game, everything goes back to normal, i also installed a 4GB RAM, could it be cable problems?, DVI connector?.

My PC's specs:

Core i5 - 2400 CPU, 3.10 GHz
Msi Gtx 680 2GB
8 GB RAM
PSU: Gigabyte Greenmax 650W

Any ideas what the problem might be? Thank you.

This sounds like screen tearing, where the graphics card is rendering frames faster than they can be displayed.
Some games cope better than others, do you notice a difference in different games?
Enable vsync in the game, this should resolve the issue.

Hi VincentP, it's not a VSync problem, they're not the lines like someone is slashing the game when you move around, i tried turning VSync on and off and the lines are still there. It seems most likely a power/cable issue?.

Yes, interference is the right word for this i guess, i'm using a VGA cable that came with the screen, and using a VGA to DVI connector/converter to plug into my GPU. Do i have to get a purely DVI cable?, guide me a little on this.

If you are using a VGA cable (and that's included with this monitor) it will most likely flicker. It sounds exactly like the issue I was having not long ago. Switch to DVI-D and the problem should be fixed completely.

The DVI-I connector on your graphics card will look like the top plug in the post above from bouncedk.
The four pins on the right of this image actually carry an analog signal. This is how DVI to VGA adapters or DVI to VGA cables work.
The three rows of pins on the left carry a digital signal.

The DVI connector on your monitor expects a digital signal.
Use a standard DVI to DVI cable connected to the DVI connector of your graphics card and to the DVI connector of the monitor.

Dude i got the DVI cable and connected directly from my monitor to GPU through DVI-D, the flickering is gone! Thanks for your help man!
