Friday, I installed a brand new Seagate Barracuda 120GB 7200rpm 8MB disk drive in my secondary system which is regular ATA equipped.
I chose this drive because I have the SATA version of the same thing in my primary machine and have been very happy with it. I assumed mechanically, it would be the same.
The new drive is not very busy, but from time to time makes a definite clicking sound. The rate at which it clicks goes up if I force the machine to do a lot of IO, virus scanner for example. The example in my other machine does not make these noises, sepite being much busier.
It is irritating, but not to the point of chucking it just for this. Unless, of course, this is a known problem and there is a nasty lurking? The FAQ says click-click-click is impending death, but this is a brand new drive?
Anyone know?
