Searching for good smartphones

I'm requiring some help from the community here in a search for cheaper alternatives to handhelds like a Galaxy S or i-phone.

A relative of ours was wanting to help purchase smartphones for me and my two brothers, preferably the exact same one.

She mentioned the LG L70, so I looked at some reviews on it and wasn't too pleased on what I saw, so I'm looking for alternatives.

Key features I'm looking for is long battery life, fair enough call quality, doesn't have to be huge, but not too small because I'd like to see what I'm doing. Another is storage capacity - I have a TON of music. Also, good quality audio playback isn't necessary but it would be a plus, as I use Sennheiser 518 headphones.

The price range should not exceed more than 150-200 dollars because we're on a tight budget here, as we need 3 of them.

I guess the product can be from any company, as long as the unit is actually reliable and dependable enough in all aspects it can do. Though, I'm of course not expecting a swiss army knife of a smartphone to excell in everything it does.

My friend tells me certain phones can have their ROM and OS changed out to eliminate Bloatware eating up battery power resulting in faster operation, response times, and longer battery life which is all a plus.

Solution
Moto G is an excellent phone my married nephew has one and he loves it.I own myself the samsung A-7 Galaxy phone which is very good also. Both have good processors in them.

I had the 8x for a while, great phone.
I use xbox music, and with xbox music I have access to my 150+GB of music wherever I go (when I have service, of course).
Whenever you have service or wifi, you have acess to your entire music library whether that be uploaded to the cloud or onto your xbox music account.

Aside from that, the 8x is a very snappy phone overall. quick browsing speed, and very reliable battery life.
The 8x is also equipped with built in beats audio, which means any headphones you plug into the phone receive a fairly large boost in sound quality.

If that $150-200 budget is meant to include all three phones, I'd go with three nokia 520's. Still very snappy phones, especially for the price. The 520 also has access to the music service.

Check out the Motorola Moto E. It has a fast Dual Core, 5mp camera, Decent 4.3 inch screen, amazing battery life and very good build quality. it comes with android 4.4.2 stock.

I have an LG G2, yeah the g3 also came out but because of it, the g2 will be cheaper. It is one of the fastest phones on the market. It has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 2GB of ram and 32GB storage (some is taken up by android OS so account for this). Of my ownership i have yet to experience a frozen screen or lag on animations. has high pixel density for an hd display. The screen is 5.2 inches. New the price will not be 150-200. But i did happen to snag a great deal on craigslist for the condition i found it in. The screen was flawless, had no scratches. the back had minimal wear but i have a case so you cant see this. knock on is a great bonus. I bought mines for 200 on craigslist but they go as low as 100 ( at least in georgia they do). if you choose to buy via craigslist always check the esn before any purchase. also my g2 was unlocked

A friend recommended to me Motorolla's Moto G and Moto E.

Motorolla seems like a pretty good manufacturer given their longevity and experience in portable communications, so that may be the answer I'm looking for.

The only issue is weather people are willing to make compromises, so I may have my eyes set on the two Moto's for now but I'll definitely consider everyone's advice.

Also, because I'm not willing to compromise on quality through cheaper pricing just to make sure the phones can be obtained, I think it should be no less than 130 per unit. I believe you get what you pay for.. So yeah.

So you want good device..
Did you heard about Micromax Yu Yureka??
It has all feature and good device.. use and throw type hardware.. Low cost with oneplus one killer..
Indian price 9,000 rs = 145 dollar approx.
available only on Amazon.in
But it's Indian device.. So try something, find out any Indian guy and get the job done.. best of luck.. For that check.. Digit.in

i have an lg volt from boost mobile and love the little phone. has a huge battery (a full day of use including a couple hours of gametime will leave about 25% of the battery, no games and it will last 2 days easy with music streaming to bluetooth speakers), 4.7" screen and can hold a 64 gb mini sd card for the music storage. they run about $79.99 but can be had for less on sale at times. i bought my dad and step-mom one each at christmas time for $59.99 each and they are very happy as well. it can easily be flashed with a stock firmware to eliminate the bloatware and it runs very snappy for such a cheap phone. root it and you get all the extra things that allows.

3 of them would almost fit into the budget and will if you can find them on sale. often radio shack is the one with the best price or best buy second.

i use this phone as a second line alongside an iphone 6 and i can say honestly that i don't feel like i am using a cheap phone even when used daily with a high end phone right next to it. best part is the plan is $35 a month with 1 gb of lte data which is pretty good for prepaid service.

I would've said the moto E aswell, it's pretty good and if they desperately need LTE (4G) they can get the new one.

Try to stay away from Sansung's aswell, as touchwiz lags so much on mid-range hardware

What is anyone's opinion on BLU smartphones?

A friend of mine told me about some of theirs and said you can get a 4 core one that can have a 5 to 7 inch display for not too much.

I was looking at Samsung, BLU, and Motorola.

@ RussianGiraffe13 - I kind of still am looking for one. But before anything is purchased I need to see what's out there first.

As for BLU goes, they have a BIG list of smartphones, to the point it's crazy. I wasn't even sure what range of models I was even looking at. I was only able to guess based on their sizes, really.

I know this thread probably should have died and I might be necro posting, but I saw a couple responses to it and figured I'd come back to it.

If Samsungs midrange offerings aren't that great then I'd probably avoid them.

The Moto E & Moto G look to be the best ones mentioned so far, unless anyone has an idea of what good BLU ones are viable.

Motorola is a very good phone indeed.Try the Asus Zen also.

I've narrowed it down to 2 devices.

Moto G 2nd gen & BLU Studio X Plus.

I was looking at some of BLU's smartphones as well. They have some pretty appealing choices but I think the Moto G second generation takes the cake for me.

I was looking at BLU's Studio X Plus because it can get more storage capacity since I'll primarily be using the device to browse the web, listen to music, and text.

But now that I think about how much of the 130GB of music or so that I actually listen to on a regular basis, it's probably slashed down to about 20-32GB, which I know the Moto G can support with the use of a good SD card.

The Moto G 2nd gen also seems to have a better processor, maybe better GPU as well. Although, I do like how the Studio X Plus has a 5.5" display, and double the capacity to 64GB.

I won't really even be gaming on it - that is why I have a desktop PC and a gaming console. So I'm not too sure if it's even necessary to have hardware from the likes of a Galaxy S5 and what have you just to get done what I want to get done.

Play music, make texts, browse the web & video ever so often. Pretty sure one doesn't need the most expensive smartphones to get that done, just as long as it doesn't come with bloatware that'll slow it down.

But many BLU phones are said to not even come with any bloatware at all, including the Moto G. Or for what little bloatware the Moto G has, is pretty useful.

From what I've read a little, the Studio X Plus, even being cheaper than the Moto G 2nd gen and coming with lesser hardware specs than the Moto G, reacts pretty well and handles performing basic tasks about as well as the Moto G does.

So for now, I'm pretty divided on the Moto G 2nd gen, and the BLU Studio X Plus.

Any thoughts?

There are 3 major OS in Smart Phone:

iOS(iPhones): Androids : Windows Phone

iOS is:
Hell Expensive
Too much strict and security wise

Android:
Good you can do pretty much everything in it but too much lagy even the high end like S5 note 3 etc
ALso they have too many issues like software failure is very commin

Windows Phone:
Somehwere between Android and iOS
Not too much restricted and not too much open for apps to do anything
ALso cheap and in Lumia they have great quality

In my opinion Windows will be better choice now days as Im using all major OS such as:
Lumia 630, Xperia Z ultra, Lumia 920, Lumia 535, Galaxy S5, Note 3, S3, Note 2, iPhone 5C... have used all of these
