i just went and bought a new powersupply. but it still does the same thing. agi powersupply that is 580 watts...this time i just pluggged the power in and nothing else but still does the same thing turns off after couple of seconds..how much do shops usually charge to test things like this out? would it matter if im missing one standoff? in the middle of the board?

did you clear the cmos? Also, does your board require any bios updates to accept your CPU? Shops vary... 45 bones wouldn't be out of the norm. What town you in?

i dont know how to clear the cmos and the computer doesnt even start up enough to be able to do anything. so i cant update my bio. im from eau claire

Is it possible that when he fried his motherboard the first time that he could of damaged his cpu if this is the same cpu from the 1st attempt?

i bought new motherboard and cpu and power supply and graphic card...ram hard drive and dvd drive is the same...any ideas on what could be wrong? it doesnt even beep when i turn it on without cpu in..i just have the main power plugged up to the motherboard and nothing happens.

Ok.. so the CPU is the same as from the first attempt. Take it to a shop at this point. Let them test the components. They would be able to test each piece individually.

Keep us posted on what the problem was when they find out. I'd love to know because I was totally betting on a PSU issue.

P.S.
use this thread because I will have it bookmarked.

i would reseat the CPU. I laughed at a buddy of mine when he didnt mount the fan all the way and when he put the tower upright it would boot for 3 seconds then BAM! the freaking cooler fell off. Make sure everything is good with the paste and cooler.

You need to listen to people and buy a quality power supply, not replace a weak link with another weak link. Either that or buy a Dell computer because if your not going to take the time to read a manual to at least learn how to clear CMOS then there is no helping you.

i bought that power supply cause the guy at the shop recommended it and i didnt wanna order one and have to wait a week to get the new one. i reseated the cpu and tryed the other cpu fan but still not working..ill try figuring out who to clear the cmos and if that doesnt work then ill take it to the shop tommorow

Does your board need a second power connection? Look carefully in the manual. If you miss that second one, it will act like yours is acting.
Don't get discouraged everyone here will help you.

Without looking at your PSU/Mobo.. I am having some issues with what you said. Some PSU's have 20 pin+4 pins for the main power. Then they have a seperate 4 or 8 pin plug from the PSU to the mobo for the CPU power. So... what you running here? do you only have a 20 pin out from the PSU for the main power and you plugged the 4 pin CPU power in with that?

have to move over to the pic of the board laying flat

Exacty! Just like I said. That other 4 pin is for the cpu power and you cannot run without it. If your PSU is only 20 pin it it will still work, but you must have something plugged in both spots.

didnt see that pin...i got it to turn on without dieing but now i got a blank screen..my monitor doesnt turn from orange to green...everything seems to be turned on but im not sure if my graphic card is working..is it supose to beep when i turn it on? and it didnt make any noises...what do u think is wrong now?

i went and got my friend's graphic card to test if it was my graphic card or something else but the same thing still happens...i took out the ram i had in and turned it on to see if there would be any beeps but still nothing..

When you make hardware changes you need to reset the cmos for the changes to take effect. If you didnt reset cmos then it might still think the ram is in. Do you have the 4 pin and six pin aux power cords plugged into your graphic card?

Use one stick of ram and make sure you have the 4 pin and six pin power plugged into the graphic card. Reset the cmos with the PSU unplugged. Plug PSU back into wall and try to boot.
