Solution
unless you plan on going SLI or Crossfire don't buy a 990fx board, it isn't needed. Get the 970 evo or the gigabyte ud3p for much cheaper. Also if you buy 8.1 you get a free upgrade to windows 10 which is coming soon.

hey thanks for your input! one thing to consider is that the fans, ram, and psu are all coming from the first computer, sorry for not mentioning that sooner. so the price difference on the graphics card would be significant. do you think replacing the pcu with a fully modular one be an advantage?

replacing it, not really, but thought you were getting a brand new one, then yes since it helps keep some clutter down. Otherwise if thats the case and youre keeping the ram, and psu (you really wouldnt need to add the fans unless you wanted to) drop those things and pick up a 970 instead of a 760.

i do not plan on going crossfire so i think i will get the 970 evo over the gigabyte since i feel more familiar with that type of board, your reply helped a lot, thank you very much!

Np, you probably could switch the power supply to an EVGA G2 750w I think they are going for 70 bucks still atm, sale might be over though. Then the ripjaws not sure if you are from Canada or something but you can also get 2133 memory for 8 gigs for 60 bucks, but your prices almost looked like CAN prices

oh, sorry but like i told HillBillyAsian the ram and power supply are from my first computer, im not actually buying them. just added them to the list cause i thought it would help with compatibility etc. would you recommend me changing them? would that be worth the price

Oh, I must of misread, not really a huge upgrade so you are fine. But the rest of your build should be just fine with that 970a motherboard. Unless you have windows 7 already I would get windows 8.1 because windows 10 is really nice, I skipped windows 8 and 8.1 and I'm using the technical preview of it on my other machine and it works very nice like windows 7 but with some of the goods that came with windows 8.

i see, i think i'll get 8.1 instead of 7 then, sounds like a cool free upgrade. btw can you tell me where the 970 evo you were looking at was? im curious if im looking at a different website or something

forgive me if im wrong, but it seems that only the old non-evo version of the 970 board is showing up on pcpartpicker currently?
